NEW WAY TO HELP! Foodies + Fundraiser = Fun event

by Jessica Murr » Sun Sep 27, 2009 10:02 pm

With Robin's blessing, I am posting a request for donations. Here is the background...

5 years ago, my husband and I came up with the idea of a Chili & Chocolate Cook-Off. The next year, we decided it was the perfect background for a fundraiser. Shortly after that, we were given the life changing news that my Father in Law had pancreatic cancer. Thus, we decided to make pancreatic cancer research the target of our fundraising efforts. We lost my Father in Law in April 2008, just weeks after our 4th child was born. Last year, we re-named the fundraiser....Fred Murr Memorial Chili & Chocolate Cook-Off.

We ask that each guest bring either chili or a dessert (doesn't have to be chocolate, but it is encouraged!). Everyone gets to sample then entries and vote for their favorite. You vote by putting cash (or checks!!) into the money container next to your choice. The ones with the most money win and all of the donations go to pancreatic cancer research.

Each year, we have double the previous years donations. Last year we donated just over $3000 to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. We are pushing to continue the trend and double that amount this year! And that is where you come in!

Eventually, we want to have a celebrity portion of the cook-off, but we are taking baby steps to get there!! This year, we are looking for items (gift certificates, etc) for a silent auction. If you are a local chef or owner or even a loyal patron of an establishment, could you be so kind as to donate to our cause? (Right now it is a private event, due to space, but if you donate something, then you will get an invitation, of course!!)

Thank you for reading this and (hopefully!) supporting us!

I realize times are tight right now and people don't have a lot of extra money to donate, no matter how good the cause is. And, I have found the solution!!

I have been nominated for a Qdoba award...no, it isn't because I eat so much Qdoba (although, that would fit!!). It is for making a difference in the community! I am very honored to be nominated, but I am even more excited about the prize. The winner will get $5000 donated to the charity of their choice. This is an incredible opportunity for me to raise even more money and awareness for pancreatic cancer research. Please, spread the word to your friends....you can vote once a day. Voting ends on Nov.1st.

Thank you!

I think you may have left out some important details.

Brian,

I thought so too...MOF I read the post several times thinking I must have missed something. Best I can figure this pretty much sums up the info we were looking for:

OMG! I hope I didn't offend anyone! That was totally not my intention! You all are completely right, the reason I didn't add the logistics of the event is because it cannot be open to everyone, since we have limitted space. Believe me, I wish it could be open to everyone!!! In the future....we just aren't there, yet.

If this is offensive, please let me know and I will remove the post. I didn't even look at it that way and that is the last thing I want to do. I apologize!
