Dinner for two for about 30 dollars .....

by Becky M » Sun Sep 27, 2009 4:02 pm

is this possible?

My mother is coming back up from Texas the beginning of October. And since i love her so much and she means so much to me, i am going to entrust her with my children! It will be dinner out for my husband and i in a VERY long time. But, we are on a budget. We do not like bar type areas, or places that are really loud. We can get loud here at home with the kids!

We just want a nice, quiet evening, but with REALLY good food.

Red Pepper Chinese will do it, Becky. Or Vietnam Kitchen or Cafe Annie for Vietnamese. Or maybe Zaytun or Shiraz, if you prefer Persian fare. In any case, the trick to great cheap eats is generally to go ethnic.

i say go to maido's happy hour. you can easily have dinner for two there for $30. if you aren't into raw sushi, there are choices which contain cooked fish as well as soup and salad, and appetizer-type items. my bf loves the kushikatsu. it's basically meat or veggies on a stick and fried. they are delicious and $1-$1.50 an order. this has been our favorite choice lately for a week night dinner. if you come in under budget at maido, stroll about four doors down to sweet surrender and split a piece of cake for dessert. the slices are (i think) a little over 5 bucks and are plenty large enough to split. have fun on your date night, becky! :)

It's not as quiet as some of the ethnic places mentioned but Cafe Lou Lou has an excellent menu and great choices and it shouldn't be hard for the two of you to eat there for around $30.00. On familiar with the one in Saint Matthew's I'm not sure about the atmosphere of the other one but I know it also has excellent food.

With all respect to Lou Lou, given that the original poster explicitly requested a place that was NOT overly loud, I don't think either Cafe Loud Loud would suit her. Food's great, though, and as you say, their budget ought to work.

I recommend Amici in Old Louisville. It's quaint, quiet and inexpensive. I would even go as far as saying romantic! The entree's are $10-$15 AND include soup or salad as a starter.

Becky, Just want to throw Brownings into the mix-- we have booths that are cozy. Price wise, 2 for $25 is very doable. Very good food for the price.

Also for when you want to bring the kids, they eat free on mondays :D
Have a great date w/ your honey.

I would suggest Le Gallo Rosso - no bar, historic/dark/slightly romantic atmosphere, and excellent prices (and HUGE portions). I think 2 people could easily eat themselves to an uncomfortable fullness here for under $30.00.

*NOTE - this was the restaurant discussed in a prior post regarding a loud, noisy next-door-neighbor-table, but in my 4 or 5 experiences there, ranging from weekday to weekend, it's never been loud or overly packed. The service is fun and attentive, and the food outstanding.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone... Le Gallo Rosso sounds good....but i dont know if my husband would be feeling italian that night. Maido, we are not big on raw fish, my husband likes fish, but i am not a fan of it.

Amici, sounds very much like what i would like.....

Paula...i had Browning's in the back of my mind, mainly to thank you personally. We didn't know about your kids eat free on Mondays, that is great. When i was posting i was thinking of Browning's but i didn't want to single you all out and begin a discussion about its worthiness. what type of food do you all serve?

Damn .. you are worried about your husbands desires? Unreal.
Would you consider dumping him? I could be in love.

Becky, I would think that using a coupon from one of the restaurants on the website that Annemarie posted would give you more "bang" for you bucket.
