Tough And Fatty Review: LAWSUIT

by RichardM » Tue Mar 06, 2007 9:20 pm

Craig LaBan is being sued for his review of a Philly restaurant. Can it be long before it happens here?

The full story is at:

Their is a difference between a strip steak and the meat from a steak sandwich. It seems to me the egos involved here have more to do with the suit than the review. I can not imagine there is a courtroom big enough for those two and a judge's as well.

That suit will go nowhere ... restaurant criticism is covered, in the US at least, by an ample body of precedent. Betcha it gets dropped.

Didn't we have a similar discussion on the old forum about a recent suit in Northern Ireland? British libel law is much tougher than in the US, but even there, there was considerable rallying around the critic.

This is ok:

"The food at the Cafe is horrible. Everything is prepared terribly. The kitchen turns out bland, boring food that is either undercooked or overcooked depending on the day."

This is not ok:

"The food at the Cafe will kill you. Most of the food is rancid and contaminated with e. coli and salmonella bacteria. Several people who have dined there later died. Also, the restaurant is racist and will not provide seats for minority diners. They also only serve people of their religious background."
