Crepe brunch Nov 1 - do come

by Dana McMahan » Wed Sep 23, 2009 8:35 pm

(Thanks Robin for letting me post an invite here)

I hope you'll all come to a crepe brunch on Nov 1 -- it's a shameless fundraising event to help meet travel expenses for my upcoming culinary writing residency in France [http://bit.ly/EbEbn]. Invite below, or see the Facebook event here: http://bit.ly/rv5cs.

Please let me know if you plan to attend -- and your favorite crepe filling! We'll do one people's choice in addition to a fall menu with good stuff like caramel+apple and pumpkin butter+camembert.

Dana McMahan is as giddy as a piglet in a truffle patch — she's going to France for a two-week writing residency at Kitchen-at-Camont, a culinary center in Gascony, France. She'll meet butchers, bakers and armagnac makers, learn French cooking, visit markets and farms, and write day and night.

But first she has to get there, and Delta does insist on being paid for airfare. Every dollar will get her ten miles closer to Paris -- and $10 will cover 100 miles. Come celebrate with Dana and Brian at a crepe brunch at the Plexus Contemporary studio November 1 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and contribute for brunch as you like towards her travel expenses. BYO drink and enjoy crepes right off the griddle from Dana and Brian!

It's planning and shopping time this weekend. I'll be in Cinci for work so I can hit Jungle Jim's and Trader Joe's. :D

Is anyone here planning to come? And I have two votes for ham and cheese -- what else?

A man got shot and killed two blocks from there last night so be careful.

A man believed to be in his 20s was shot and killed in the Portland neighborhood on Tuesday night.

The man was found dead in an alley near the corner of North 22nd Street and Portland Avenue, said Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers on a routine patrol around 7:30 p.m. heard gunshots near the 2200 block of Portland Avenue, Smiley said. Shortly afterward, the officers saw a green sedan speeding in the area. Police stopped the vehicle one or two blocks down Portland Avenue, and at the same time, another officer found the body of the victim in the alley, Smiley said.

That's terrible! My friend Bryce actually lives in the studio in Portland where we'll be.

Yep, we've been in touch! :) He's getting me a couple bottles of Dumante, and checking on some Champagne. How cool is that?
And the woman who runs the culinary center in France where I'm going is going to try to set up a live video feed. She'll make crepes in her 18th century farmhouse kitchen while we're making them in Bryce's gallery and we can all see her kitchen live. Love it!

If you are to afraid to be close to an area where someone was shot, you best move to a deserted island.

I only saw him pointing it out as saying it happened recently; not that Portland should be avoided overall. More of a "Heads Up" than " What the Hell are you living in THAT Neighborhood?" post. Everyone knows crime does not discriminate and that's not an issue.
