Maker's Mark Stimulus Package

by Rick G » Mon Sep 21, 2009 5:25 pm

Hey. Saw a full page ad in Sunday's paper from Bill Samuels that he has lowered the price of Maker's Mark. His reasoning seems to be the new 6% sales tax that was just put into affect a few months ago.
So he is lowering it 6%. Thank's to you Bill for doing something that I think might stimulate sales in Maker's and giving us all a little extra in our pocket.

Their new billboard in the junction is classic.

We've seen a few of the larger liquor producers coming through with price reductions that are supposed to start next month. It's ironic that they are dropping prices just as the big beer companies are raising prices.

So. Just curious...is the "Hops Crisis" of the last couple of years over ? If so you would think that beer prices would be coming down instead of going up. (Like that'll happen in my lifetime)

The "shortage" appears to be over yet prices stabilized at double the initial starting point. The whole "crisis" snowballed to malt then cleaning chemicals, then packaging, then...

You get the picture. Prices are steady now but many of the craft breweries contracted hops/malt at the higher price with contracts as far out as 8 years. I wouldn't look for any decreases.

<huge sigh> Well I hope these price increases stop soon. I love my craft beer but I'm about a buck a six pack away from giving up and going back to smoking dope. :P

I'm told the going price for high grade Ky. grown weed is still $400/oz. Price has held for 12 years or so. Well made hoppy craft brew and Ky.'s finest is a nice pairing, I'm told. Course then you have to throw a pizza, a bag of funions, a big red soda and some twinkies in that mix. Craft brew is still the cheaper way to go.
