Review of Great KY Bourbon Tasting and Gala

by Ellen P » Sun Sep 20, 2009 3:46 pm

If you can go, it's great fun. Plan on it next year-now. At least booking a room. I think this was my 3rd time. Hadn't been in a few years because of football conflicts.
The Ky 'distilleries' set up booths/displays with a pouring of their special bourbons and some of them have a special cocktail featuring their bourbons. You are handed canvas bags when you enter then you start sampling. There are may be 10 distilleries with 3 or 4 drinks each. Most have a special glass for each so, most of us take a few sips, then pour out the contents, then put the glass in the bag!
There are appetizers too. This is for 1 1/2 hours. Then you go into a huge tent for more drinks, dinner, and dancing. Kevin Harned is the MC; band plays music selected by Mayor Jerry I think, since it dates back to the 50's :D The governor was there. Bill Samuels sported a white suit with red accents, red scarf, white bowler. The food is not good. Small buffet with salad and dessert on the table. No wine :D
But it is a fun evening. Staying nearby is a good idea. Better idea is to get a shuttle back to motel. But most people haven't consumed that much.
Before the dinner, all the master distillers gathered on stage.
Fun evening. Since it's black tie, it's a chance to dressup.
