Rootie's Comes to Louisville

by JustinHammond » Sat Sep 19, 2009 6:22 pm

Has anyone tried this place?

Although Rootie's did not invent the buffalo-style chicken wing, it sure went a long way to perfect this culinary delight. Award winning, authenticity counts as the tradition lives on in Louisville with Rootie's arrival from Buffalo, New York and Coconut Creek, Florida. What sets Rootie's apart from the rest? Rootie's award winning, nationally renowned signature charcoal-grilled barbecued chicken wings made with, of course, Rootie's famous gourmet barbecue sauce. It is uniquely thick, hickory smoked and spicy. Rootie's is also known for its famous gourmet blue cheese dressing and dip.

This site is still evolving, so please check back frequently to see the changes. In the meantime, stop in and try our wings.

Justin,

Never heard of the place but given my propensity for wings as well as the relative proximity to the homestead I'll be giving it a try. The menu does appear to be 100% "Sports Bar" (an observation I'm sure everyone else has made as well)...So I doubt anyone is running around the kitchen calling anyone "Chef".

I did do a quick bit of searching on the net and really couldn't find too much info on either this location or the previous one in FL. Given all the "review" websites out there you would have thought that someone would have written something about the place. What the heck though, I'm a wing addict, so I'll stop in for a fix.

I dug this thread up because I've been on a wing kick recently. I had the opportunity to visit several area wing places (Buffalo Wild Wings, Buffalo Wings and Rings, Rooster's and Rootie's) in a short span of time and I have to say hands down, no questions Rootie's has the best wings in town. Large, cooked perfectly (crispy skin, moist meat and no grease) plenty of sauce with the appropriate amount of heat and their house made blue cheese is an excellent complement. Best wings I've had outside of Buffalo. I had to go back for a repeat visit they were so good. 2nd visit lived up to the first.

Their grilled BBQ wings, while not traditional, are outstanding in their own right. Sticky and delicious. Their house made BBQ sauce is excellent. Make sure you have lots of napkins or paper towels.

We also had a basket of fries (nothing exceptional, but cooked well and they did the job) and onion rings (I'd put them up against any onion rings in town) and came away VERY happy. Prices were very reasonable and service was prompt and friendly. The owner even stopped by to make sure we were happy. Beer selection wasn't great, but they have decent happy hours prices if you can handle domestic mass brew. I don't mind it with wings and fried goodies.

BWW was fine. It'll do in a pinch. I do like their mango habanero sauce. The food I got from the Buffalo Wings and Rings off 146 was borderline inedible. None of us finished our meals. Won't be doing back there. Would have sent it back except that we got take out. Small wings with little sauce or flavor were greasy and limp. Onion rings were from a bag and under cooked. Not good. (You'd think a place called Wings and Rings would manage to do at least those two things right). Rooster's was ok, but not worth driving to IMO. There isn't one close to me.

If you haven't tried Rootie's I recommend it highly. Good stuff and a local gem.

I heart Rooties. Yum! Slow, SLOW service, but awesome wings!
