Taco Toreados confusion

by John Hagan » Wed Sep 16, 2009 9:27 am

At the Sergios offline I was chatting with another forumite who told me he had been out there only to find the new shop closed and empty. I also remember a recent thread where the poster wrote that they had great food and fine time over there. I drove over there yesterday and found a closed Mexican restaurant at 9113 Galeene. The place had a under new management sign in the window with an open soon "Las Chicanitas" banner. A guy was walking out of the market next door and I asked him if he knew when they would open and he told me (language issue) that place has been closed for two months, with no answer about the new place. The address I had written down for Tacos Toreados was 9109 but I didnt see any other place in the mall that looked like a restaurant.
Any thoughts?
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

I was there last Friday and had a wonderful lunch. They are open for sure. It is in the same area as the Dollar General store.

The Dollar General stores address:
JEFFERSONTOWN VILLAGE SHOPPING
9101 GALENE DRIVE
JEFFERSONTOWN, KY 40299-1523

It has a fixed bakery sign and a banner for Taco Toreados under it.

Make sure you try the frijoles charros.

In celebration of my birthday this week, my mom and I went to Juan's Taco Toreados grand opening. Be forewarned, his sign isn't up yet, but the bakery sign still is, Google map it to the address: 9109 Galene Dr, it's in the strip mall on the left just after Six Mile turns into Galene if you go straight through the traffic light. There is a Mexican grocery next to it. We got out and who should pull up but Mary and Robin! We had a nice lunch, the tacos were excellent, they have pastor now, as well as a seasoned barbacoa whose spanish name escapes me that was excellent. No take out menus yet and I should have taken notes. The quesadillas were great, and the elotes...well, how can corn in a cup with butter, crema and cheese not rock? We got a suprise tasting of the cowboy beans, Frijoles Gaucho, which were incredibly tasty too...not something I would have ordered but I something I'd like to eat again. They have Jarritos, and when we went up to pay noticed they also have Horchata. Juan graciously treated me to a take home piece of cake as we left for my birthday! Good thing, because I couldn't have eaten more. $18 plus tip for a ton of food for two people. They also serve breakfast, and on weekends has special dishes like Menudo and goat barbacoa. I think Juan has a winner here, and once the foodies discover him he is going to need more seating. Thanks Juan!

This place is easy to miss, the banner isn't huge but if you can spot the Dollar Store sign on the mall just look east to the corner of the strip mall and there it is! Worth scouting out...

Brush up on your Spanish. The lady working had to call Juan and we placed our order over the phone and then he translated.

The food was awesome.

John, you were in the right place... but Tacos Toreados is on the other "other side " of the Mexican grocery store. The times we have been there we noticed the Las Chicanitas and i wondered about it as well. But....

Tacos Toreados is there......up and running!

This site has a picture of the building....

http://www.tacostoreados.com/

Looking at the first "FOR LEASE" sign, Tacos Toreados is right next to that. The Mexican grocery store is after that, sign number three. There are two signs after that, one of those is for Las Chicanitas.....

i hope that explanation was not too confusing.... I REALLY like Juan's place, and just want to help out if someone is wanting to try it but cannot find it......

I am an elotes freak. Corn in a cup is near to heaven to me...and Juan's is good and spicy!! Also know, you can buy a cup of the red sauce to take home with you. The quesadilla is really good too. So much to try! I am getting a jones on right now for elotes :D
