Tacos Toreados and AJ's Gyro To Go.....

by Becky M » Tue Sep 08, 2009 11:20 am

We had lunch at Juan's on Sunday after church. It was sooooo good. Not surprised of course.....

We mostly had tacos de carne asada, but i tried one of barbacoa which was very good as well. Again ordered rice and beans for the babies, i love that they have that. Huge plate of rice, big cup of beans, and actually the two babies and my two daughters all ate from that. Happy to say they now have diet Cokes, in a can, i would have loved a Mexican Diet Coke, but no biggie.

But the biggest surprise was the menudo. Juan offered it and menudo is tricky thing so i asked if i could taste it. He brought a "taste" big enough for my whole family to sample it, along with the traditional corn tortillas that go with. IT WAS AWESOME! If you like menudo, you NEED to try the menudo. It was soooo good, the spices were right on, with fresh chopped cilantro and onion thrown in there right when he served it. Oh, i almost forgot, the perfect amount of fresh squeezed lime was in there as well. It was REALLY, REALLY good. My husband and daughters said it was ok. One daughter really liked it, but she likes everything. I had already ordered my tacos, so next weekend i go in there, menudo for sure.

Before we left i picked up some pan dulce. Really good as well. Funny thing, my daughters were kind of disappointed. They said that it wasn't sweet. I couldn't get them to understand that it is not like cake or doughnuts, but a sweet bread type of thing. Just sort of sweet, not overly sweet. My favorite, the maranitos (little piggies). I love those things, i only bought three, BIG MISTAKE.

Overall, everything was great. My biggest disappointment, that they are so far away. But, they are sort of close to my church, so that helps.

After lunch, we drove in the complete other direction to AJ's Gyros To Go. It may be a bit of a drive out, but it works because the babies get to sleep and we all just relax on the drive out there.

My girls both got Turtle flurries, which they said were really good. My husband got a hot fudge sundae and i got the hand scooped Moose Tracks. Personally, i think i got the best thing. It was good ice cream. Not overloaded with with chocolate but just the right amount. We took our goodies to go and had a nice long Sunday drive. We talked about our ice cream for a long time afterward.

At one point i said that i might like the ice cream better than Mom and Pop's, lol. Everyone just looked at me like i was crazy..... We have been going to Mom and Pop's for years and it is our family thing. But.... we did all agree that we have to try out some more stuff at AJ's..... For test/comparison reasons of course...

Unfortunately, we discovered AJ's way too late in the season. Plus, i personally think that she named the place after my son..... :D :D :D

ppsssssstttt...... Don't forget that menudo!

Becky, Joe told me that you had been in. Glad you made it and we were open!!. You should come up to Highlander Point for your lunch after church one week. Unfortunately, as I said we don't do hand scoop up here, but we do have flurries, so your girls will be OK.
