Spanish Wine Tasting @ Arbor Ridge Vine & Grill (Crestwood)

by David DuBou » Tue Sep 08, 2009 10:08 am

Arbor Ridge Vine & Grill of Crestwood continues to fight the high cost of Wine Dinners by continuing its bi-monthly series of wine tasting seminars.

On Tuesday, September 15th, David DuBou of Vintner Select Importers & Distributors will guide us through the amazing wines and regions of Spain!
Spain has produced an amazing renaissance in wine over the last several years with a revival of ancient forgotten grapes and regions along with a new, youthful approach to viticulture and wine. A new generation, largely influenced by California & Australia has taken hold and is releasing amazingly dynamic wines and many at extremely reasonable prices.
as usual, hor d'ouveres will be served along with a 3 ounce (half glass) taste of each wine.

Cost to attend is $25 per person and the event is limited to 30 attendees so please RSVP well in advance. The Event will promptly begin @ 8pm

The featured wines for the evening will be:

Sitios de Bodega 2008 "Con Class", Rueda
88 Points, The Wine Advocate "80% Verdejo, 10% Viura, and 10% Sauvignon Blanc aged on its lees in stainless steel. The Verdejo was sourced from organically farmed vines ranging in age from 60-100 years. Aromas of baking spices, melon and citrus are enticing. This leads to a ripe, tasty, balanced wine"

Artazuri 2008 Rosado (Rose), Navarra
Juan Carlos Lopez, one of Spain's outstanding winemakers, has fashioned a benchmark Rosé from the eminently suitable Garnacha grape. With reasonable weight yet real poise, the wine delivers red-berried fruits, and finishes with a delicately crisp and graceful pirouette to acknowledge summer's heat and dust.

Tikalo 2007 "Rubens' Tempranillo, La Mancha
This traditional unfiltered Tempranillo displays youthful character and plenty of wild raspberry notes along with other red fruits in a deep smoky frame. There is also the typical La Mancha region dry earthy quality that adds character and balance.

Capcanes "Mas Donis Barrica", Montsant
90 Poinrs, The Wine Advocate "A blend of 85% Garnacha (from vineyards over 80 years of age) and 15% Syrah. Aged for eight months in French and American oak, it was bottled without fining and filtration. It offers up an alluring bouquet of smoke, pencil lead, earth notes, clove, cinnamon, and black cherry. This leads to a wine with remarkable depth and concentration for its humble price, savory flavors, and a fruit-filled finish."

Vinedos del El Seque Monastrell, Alicante
89 Points, The Wine Advocate "The 2007 Vinedos de El Seque is 100% Monastrell. Purple-colored, it reveals a fragrant perfume of violets, raspberry, and cherry. It has a vibrant palate-feel, savory flavors, good depth and grip, and a lengthy finish."

And..Thank you to Robin Garr for permitting this post. As always, his support of the quality and creative wine events is very, very much appreciated.

David -

Thanks for the shout out. As far as the paired hor d'ouveres, we are planning:

Mixed Cheese Bruschetta (Parmesan and Feta) with Fresh Basil, Oregano and Chives
Grilled Oldham County Melon Wrapped in Prosciutto
Caramelized Chipotle Roasted Duck Breast
Dry Rub BBQ Pork Tenderloin Medallion
Grilled Beef Tenderloin Brochette with Balsamic Glaze

These are always fun events with great turnouts, so early RSVP is usually a good idea.
