How far would you drive for good BBQ?

by Steve R » Fri Sep 04, 2009 9:33 pm

I had the pleasure of having lunch today at Clark Boy BBQ on Johnsontown Road in Riverport. I hadn't had their BBQ in over fifteen years when they had a pretty good location on Crittenden Drive(yeah Lamas I said "Crittinin" drive). Now they seem hidden off of a side street off the Greenbelt Highway. It was terrible to walk into this place during the lunch rush and to be the only one in there. The owner said he was looking to get a job with the City or something because business had been so bad. The BBQ was excellent and very reasonably priced. "Good" BBQ is getting harder to come by in this city and this was some of the best I have had in a while. I can't wait to go back and try the Ribs .
Please try and make it out there if you can and try to save this hidden gem before it becomes victim as some of the other restaurants have done.

That's sweet of you to promote them. I've had good bbq at 2 places in the city, so I guess it's not very urban fare. I did have a helping hand in opening a place called Foxy's BBQ in Madisonville, Ky, recently, but it's 3 hours away, so I probably wouldn't go that far. But I could tell that the locals were freakin out about it. Fortunately I don't need to travel any futher than my dad's for the best bbq ribs on the planet. He's not open to the public though, major apologies. (pressure cooking is his key)

How far? I'm going to Memphis within the next month because I have been craving Rendezvous' ribs. So....4 hours +/-.

Great thing about Owensboro.

They have Moonlite AND Old Hickory Pit Bar-BQ. The 2 best in the state. I've never been to Moonlite , but Old Hickory was so good it made it wanna slap my neighbors dog!

If one ever gets a chance to eat at one of the two, then don't miss out. Try the burgoo at Old Hickory. It's a plate of heaven. And, if you're planing to go, bring me some back...please!

If you can make it to Memphis in 4 hrs, my prayers are with you! I've done the trip I don't know how many times, and it's virtually always 6 hrs +/- for me

I live in Etown. It's usually about a 4 1/2 hr drive for us, really.

If it was vegan, I'd drive (or bike) across town.

If it is real meat, I wouldn't move an inch (vegetarian here).

OK, you're an hour closer to Memphis than I am (Prospect area, near Oldham Co. line). If the orange cones and road repair around Nashville are OK, I understand!
