WorldFest!

by Deb Hall » Fri Sep 04, 2009 10:41 am

All,

I consider this weekend's WorldFest to be among the best of Louisville's food events. For those of you who aren't familiar, it's a international food and culture festival running most of the weekend; there's wonderful, inexpensive food from just about every ethnic area- some of which you can't buy in Louisville any other time. Ethnic Street Food-type vendors even come in from out- of town ( I had some fantastic authentic tacos from a vendor from Lex last time). We love to just wander around listening to the music and trying whatever catches our eye.

For those who've been before, what are your favorites?

Note: I have no affiliation with WorldFest, just love the food. I will however be working at the ValuMarket Booth this evening ( 7:30-11:00) selling water for Manual Field Hockey, so if you come out, stop by to say "hi".

The Guatemalan tamales are to die for! Unlike any tamales I've ever had. Very light and fluffy masa. I'm getting ready to walk over and buy enough to take home for dinner.

I was cruising the vendor list for WorldFest and found this:

"We are going to be making our famous Cannoli and Double Chocolate Brownies for the attendees enjoyment", says Bernie Pasquantino, co-owner of Adrienne's. "This is our first time at World Fest, so we are pulling out all the stops. We will be filling the Cannoli to order right there at the booth, so you know they will be fresh and tasty".

Adrienne and Co. will also be offering an "Offer You Can't Refuse" coupon for a free Italian dinner in their dining room in Downtown Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Gotta get me a cannoli, and that coupon too!

Deb,
It is the Lopez Foods booth. It is facing the rear of the KCA, close to the west end of the Belvedere, along the sidewalk that is closest to the river. They are great - stuffed with pork. Watch out for the occasional bone. Delish. If I recall correctly from last year, I believe Robin said these folks only set up for this event. Such a shame not to have their food available all the time.

I really think that being dragged to my in-laws every single Labor Day weekend when this is going on is grounds for divorce. :(

Please enjoy all the treats extra hard in my honor.

Michelle-
I agree. It starts tonight- can't you threaten divorce if you can't go this evening before heading out of town???

Worldfest was awesome tonight. I have eaten all manner of food, and am planning on going back for more tomorrow. The turkish coffee seems to have settled the stomach a bit, so I'm pretty good for the evening.

Deb, i appreciate you posting this. We are a family of six, and going out for anything gets expensive very quickly. if i am right the guatemalen tamale is a bit larger than a regular tamal, i am thinking that could feed one child. How is the pork bun? Can it feed a large construction working man??? :| :| :|

Becky,

Most of the portions are small to match the prices, but it's still an inexpensive eat out if you choose wisely. The tamale was large, and yes one would easily feed a child. The pork bun was small, about 3 inch diameter, but it plus something else could be a meal. I'd say you can easily feed everyone for less than $10 each, probably less - including beverage ( Drinks at the Red Trailers are only $1 each).

I neglected to mention the Cubano from Valuemarket- I didn't get one but my daughter did, and it was a good sized sandwich for $5.

Enjoy!

Deb, thanks again for the info.

I am going to try to head out there. I am thinking the sun and air will help us get over this darn illness we have.

Now.. can anyone give me directions there. I do not know the downtown area, i would be coming from Indiana. If there is an address nearby that i can mapquest, that is even better.

How does parking work here? I have two babies, so i am trying to plan out what i need to take/ length of walk etc.

It's near the Galt House and Ky Center For the Arts. It'll be in between North Sixth Street and Galt House Hotel/rd. KY Center for the Arts is on Main street.

Parking should be available in 4 different locations. KY Center For the Arts; further down N. Street near the Picnic area; Main St; and Galt House side too. But be aware of the parade:

Saturday, September 5, 2009, 12 p.m.
Parade starts 6th and Jefferson streets,
goes east on Jefferson St from 6th;
turns north on 4th Street where new naturalized citizens will join; turns west on Main Street;turns north on Belvedere ramp; passes through , WorldFest, ending at Main Stage.

Hope it helps; might be too late for the parade assistance!
