Stone/Dogfish Event, a friendly competition!

by Ashley Isaacs » Wed Sep 02, 2009 3:15 am

Greg Koch, the CEO and co-founder of Stone Brewing Company in San Diego will be at Flanagan's Ale House on September 19th to show off his top of the line brews in a display of incredible beers from the East Coast to the West Coast! Since this is the day of rivalries (don't worry, the UofL/UofK game will be over long before this event!) two of the countrie's top breweries along with our favorite local brewery will be going head to head! This will be an outdoor fest, and Morton Ave will be closed for the event with live music on the street all evening starting at 5:00 pm! Plus, 100% of procceds are going to benefit a local non-profit, Henry's Ark! Come out, drink great beer, and support your community!

Dogfish Head in Deleware and Stone are both sending their favorite and most exquisite beers. This is the list so far:

Stone -
2008 Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine aged in Red Wine Barrels
Stone Smoked Porter w/Chipotle Peppers
Stone Cali-Belgique IPA
Stone 09.09.09 Vertical Epic
Sone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale
2007 Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine

Dogfish Head -
Chicory Stout
Punkin Ale
Palo Santo Marron
Burton Baton
Raison D'etre

Plus it will be a FOOD FACE OFF!
Our chefs have come up with some unbelievable recipes... here is a few of the dishes:

Stone IPA Beercheese and Pretzels or Dogfish 60 Minute IPA Beercheese and Pretzels

Stone Smoked Porter with Chipotle Butternut Squash Soup or Dogfish Punkin Pumpkin Bisque with Spicy Dijon Spiked Pumpkin Seeds

Grilled Pork Tenderloin with a Stone Old Guardian Barleywine Aged in Red Wine Barrels and Spicy Cherry Chutney, with Roasted Potatoes, and Haricort Vert or Grilled Pork Tenerloin with a Dogfish Raison D'etre Grape Chutney, with Roasted Potatoes, and Haricort Vert

Stone Vertical Epic Chocolate Cheesecake with a Cali Begique Walnut Graham Cracker Crust and an Arrogant Bastard Caramel "Glass" or Dogfish Theobrama Chocolate Cheesecake with Pecan Palo Santo Graham Cracker Crust and an Indian Brown Caramel "Glass"

We have live music changing every hour, starting at 5:00! Generally, it's all about the beer, but if anyone is interested in the line up, let me know!

We are still working on the line up from BBC, I know they have something special planned... and don't worry, we will have some awesome food specials in the works for them as well! More info as it comes in...

Good work, Ashley. This sounds like a prime event. Greg was at the Public House a couple of years back, and it was fabulous. I'll surely be by if the schedule gives me an opening.

Glad to see "the big game" is in Lexington this year. This is much too nice an event to be overran with drunk, annoying college football fans. :D

Considering the number of people likely already at Flanagan's/O'Shea's or elsewhere in the area to watch the game, I would expect to still see tons of drunk college football fans.

Ashley this sounds like a wonderful event !! :D

I will be at the game in Lexington and am wondering if this is a ticketed event or open to everyone ?

Just don't know what time I will be there.

It's open to anyone! There will be a $5 cover to help out with the cost of the bands (since all of the proceeds are going to charity). I think it is going to be a lot of fun. I can't wait to try the Old Guardian aged in Red Wine Barrels!

This just in! So we've been waiting to hear what the wonderful BBC has been brewing up for us, and we finally know. Bluegrass Brewing Company will be bringing a beer we wait for all year... the extremely difficult to get, bigger than big, Big Fella! The older brother of their Jefferson Reserve Bourbon Barrel Stout, Big Fella only comes once a year in a VERY limited quantity!

They are also serving up Queen's Knickers Aged in Brandy Barrels. I can't wait to taste the complexity that comes out of that one!

Ashley - if there's anything else I need to know about this event that isn't already recounted here, please let me know (private message), as your event is the topic of my Wednesday LEO column next week. Thanks.

Another addition... we will have a keg of Dogfish Theobroma!

From the Dogfish web page: This beer is based on chemical analysis of pottery fragments found in Honduras which revealed the earliest known alcoholic chocolate drink used by early civilizations to toast special occasions. The discovery of this beverage pushed back the earliest use of cocoa for human consumption more than 500 years to 1200 BC. As per the analysis, Dogfish Head’s Theobroma (translated into 'food of the gods') is brewed with Aztec cocoa powder and cocoa nibs (from our friends at Askinosie Chocolate), honey, chilies, and annatto (fragrant tree seeds).

Ashley,
Congratulations on another great event. The weather was perfect and I got to see some old friends. The beer selection was awesome and diverse even with only three breweries represented. Everyone seemed to have a good time. When is the next event?
