Del Frisco's

by Ellen P » Tue Sep 01, 2009 12:35 pm

We had never eaten there after all of these years. (When they were one of the few restaurants in town that served this type of menu, we couldn't justify spending more than our 1 week grocery allowance for a family of 4, on one meal. Then when we could afford to eat out more, the local restaurant scene boomed and they got lost in the shuffle. We of course have been to Havana Rhumba's next door. We went to Mortons once. Never again. Don't need to return to Stoney River. Ruth's Chris was a special family occassion so we might go back. Incredible views. Pat's a few years ago. Should return.)
It was the best of any steak house in recent memory. Food was well prepared. Hot. Timely. Our server was good - he had been there 20 years.
We had salads, steaks, potatoes augratin, mushrooms, and the green phunque. Had to have the phunque. It was all good.
Bottle of wine.
Birthday dessert on the house.
With tip $170+.
Nicely done. Lovely evening. (And to justify the expense, took leftovers home. Have to do it. :)

Best steakhouse in the city that I have been to .. Del Friscos
Very close .. Pats .. but a little different
Ruth's Chris .. Beautiful views. OK, but I have been twice and out of 4 people, something has been sent
back each time. Overpriced
Mortons .. sorry and overpriced.

I have not been to Jeff Rubys or Z's. Many comments that Z's is the best.

And I always take any leftovers home from any place, unless I am not going home soon. If stuff is good, makes a good lunch. If not good, the dog eats all mistakes.

Del Frisco's serves a fine steak. I happen to like Stoney River better than Ruth's Chris especially when cost is a consideration. My office was on the 12th floor of that building for 5 years so the view I'm used too.

Morton's I don't care for. Love the vibe at Pat's but the food can be lackluster. I've never made it to Jeff Ruby's.

While I don't think of Palermo in the same catagory as the tradional American steakhouse, I agree that the food and vibe are wonderful. In that same vein I love the beef at Seviche. Their Gaucho special is usually fantastic and the skirt steak is a local standard IMO. The quality of the preparation is second to none in the city. (I had dinner there last night so it's still on my mind.)

We've had a couple of very good dining experiences at "Z's"...Stoney River wasn't bad either. We've got Del Frisco's and Pat's on our radar for the next steak feast.

I think Jeff Ruby's is the best, mainly because they're the only one to dry age their beef (all the others wet age). Many won't like this - it's a much stronger "beefy" flavor, hard to describe but definitely there. Personally, I love it, but have friends that prefer milder flavored beef.

I have a basic problem with Ruth's Criss's. I love RARE steak. One cannot serve a steak on an 800 degree plate and - by the time one is done - have it anything but medium well. I ask for a plate out of the fridge, but it doesn't always happen. I do think Ruth's has a great crab cake (as does Morton's).

We love Del Frisco's! The decor is a little dated, but the steaks, sides, and service are always flawless.

I think Del Frisco's is the best steak house value in town. I love Jeff Ruby's, and it is certainly more exciting decor-wise, but I get more bang for the buck at DF's. I've given up on Morton's and Ruth's Chris. Pat's I can take or leave, but like it maybe once a year for the nostalgia factor.

I love Del Frisco's also, and especially because the decor is dated. It's like taking a trip back in time. Some may sneer at this old relic, but their steaks are great, and so are the side dishes. If those walls could talk, who knows what they'd say?

I guess I'll add my steak opinion to everyone else's,

Z's Steakhouse and Oyster Bar - expensive but worth it
Ruths Chris - overpriced
Morton's -overpriced but OK for a special occasion
Jeff Ruby's - expensive great food and atmosphere
Pats - needs to move into the 20th century, questionable service
Stony River - why bother? They can ruin a good steak
Del Frisco's - very good meat, questionable service sometimes

Most of the other restaurants mentioned I don't really consider steak restaurants, they are good restaurants that happen to serve steaks.

Okay - I gotta step away from the pack and say I love Ruth's Chris. Every time we go I think "it's not going to be as good this time" but so far it has been. I do love Del Frisco's and Z's as well. Del Frisco's was always our fancy going out to eat for a really special occasion place for my family when I was in high school. Alas, the decor doesn't appear to have changed. But fortunately, neither has the green phunque. Z's has a great filet, but I'm in love with their blue cheese dressing.
