No really, I want it spicy hot...

I've run into this on more than one occasion; typically at an Indian or Thai place. When I order it hot or extra-extra hot; it seems to come out gringo hot. I want it to be "tear the roof off your mouth" hot or how THEY would consider hot. Has anyone else run into the same problem?

I find that if you say, "I'd like it very spicy. Thai spicy," they usually get that you can handle it.

Go to Simply Thai and order anything over a 5. For example, your ticket might read 7/5. The hottest anyone has ever had (and they eat this regularly) is a 16/5. I've made it to a 10/5, but I'm sticking to around 8 from now on.

We discussed this on here a while ago. I blurted out at Sitar that I wanted my food "Mad Indian hot" because American hot just isn't and Indian hot, well they just won't do it. My food came out pretty damn hot, and goooood. I know someone else on here modified the request to Mad Thai Hot" and that worked also.

I will give props to Simply Thai, though. They can do some serious hot foot. yummy

I've got that covered too...My Tabasco pepper plant/s must have a billon of those little fellers all over em. I have NO idea what I'm going to do with all this hot stuff (but it sure was fun growing 'em). I was really hoping you (or someone) would take up my offer to raid the pepper patch. If you change your mind just give me a holler. BTW, I get the heeby-jebbies just looking at those Jolokias. They even look scary. I enjoy spicy (often very spicy) dishes, but just don't understand those who seek the "tear the roof off your mouth" experience....I've had that and (IMO) it just overwhelms the flavor of the food....but, if you like it, go for it!

I don't do super hot, so very "gringo" hot is typically fine for me, but my buddy always orders Indian food "Indian hot," and it's usually so hot it makes my eyes water.

Mai's Thai will also do tear-the-roof-off-your-mouth "Thai Hot." And it makes Mai very happy.
