Ichiban Samurai All You Can Eat Sushi

by Paul Mick » Sun Aug 23, 2009 2:44 pm

My parents and I stopped by Ichiban Samurai for their all you can eat (AYCE) sushi deal last night. I must say I was impressed.

For around $22 ($20 on Wednesdays), you can order as many rounds of sushi as you want. However, you can't share with non-AYCE customers, you have to clean your plate before the next order, and you're charged $1 for any piece of sushi that you don't eat. Additionally, there is a limited (although quite extensive) menu that you can order from, and you can never order more than 10 pieces of nigiri-zushi, 6 pieces of nigiri-zushi and 1 maki-zushi (roll), or 2 maki-zushi at any given time.

Overall, I find those stipulations to be more than fair.

All told, I consumed 20 pieces of nigiri and 1 roll, and my dad had 12 pieces of nigiri and 3 rolls. This is well worth the $22 price tag. The sushi itself was excellent, if not quite the best I've ever had. Everything was deftly prepared, and I'm really surprised the wait between rounds was as short as it was. The fish was fresh and flavorful, and the ratio of fish to rice was generous. The pickled ginger seemed exceptionally tart and tasty, and the wasabi was uncommonly pungent (which is a good thing).

My only complaint was with my mother's chicken teriyaki. She isn't a sushi kind of person, so she went with her familiar stand-by when the three of us go to a sushi restaurant. It wasn't bad, but it was a bit on the dry side compared to other similar restaurants.

In the end, I highly recommend Ichiban Samurai. If you're willing to spend the twenty bucks, then this deal rivals Maido's Super Happy Hour.

Yeah, that's a pretty good deal for all you can eat sushi...I was tempted to go for that deal, at least until I saw a special "real crab" meat deluxe roll being advertised at the sushi bar...Good stuff!...

BTW, just in case you're wondering what the record is for most sushi consumed by one individual at Ichiban Samurai...(The sushi chef actually showed us his order form) ...120 individual pieces in a three hour sitting...

While we certainly weren't there for 8 hours, the idea of eating 120 individual pieces is absolutely horrifying. We did see a few people there who were packing the sushi away like UPS, but nothing on that scale.

It begs the question...At what point does fulfillment become gluttony?

you know that reminded me of this time my husband went to a chinese buffet..... I am a big girl and i was pregnant, so i was hungry, and eating what to me was alot of food. But there was this woman there..... oh my god... it was horrific, disgusting, and PURE gluttony!!!!!! She was just eating, and eating, and eating..... she would get crab legs maybe 10-15 on her plates and she got no less than four helpings of that. Then she ate plates and plates and plates of anything and everything else. She even took smoke breaks.... my husband and i just stared in amazement... it was just weird to witness. I actually thought that maybe she had some kind of disorder or something... i really dont know but it was a sad thing to witness....
