Jeff Restaurant gone? New China on 10th Street

by Lois Mauk » Sun Aug 23, 2009 9:17 am

I hadn't been there for a couple of months, but I was surprised yesterday to see that New China restaurant on 10th Street in Jeffersonville, just west of Allison Lane, between Thornton's and Pizza Hut, has closed.

Does anyone know if they have moved or if they simply shut down?

wow.... i go by there a lot and had not noticed... They never seemed very busy. My husband had been there and he said it was just okay to him. Still sorry to see a restaurant close in this small area....

Didya know that Orchid Cafe downtown New Albany is gone also, found that out the hard way but all was saved by an always trusty visit to Market Fish. There is no decent Asian on the northside of the river.

Unfortunately I too was a recipient of the same treatment by the staff when deciding on a carryout order just as was posted here a few months back by another forumite, which is fine if they don't want my money I can always go elsewhere.

Mai's Thai.

The Thai place on Charlestown Road is also really good as well. There is a Sushi place further up Charlestown Road towards Sellersburg that I have not had a chance to try, but have heard good things. It is in the same strip mall as El Nopal.

Mai's Thai and onion Tea House are fine choices on the North Side.

Hmm, that one has been under my radar, Todd. Can you tell me a little more about it?

I was there about 9 months ago and even posted a thread about it. I forgot the name but it's in a strip mall across from Northside Christian Church if we are talking about the same place. I thought their food was good. There may be some connection to Mai Thai.

My memory must be shot. Don't rub it in.

And thanks for the repeat, Mark!

It is in a strip mall just past the Meijer on Charlestown Road (same side of the road), next to the Spaghetti Shoppe and a Dry Cleaner. I did a quick search and cannot find a name for it, but they have good signage, including bright yellow signs on the road that says Thai Food.

'Beijing' is the one next to El Nopal in Sellersburg, forgot all about that one although I think I did eat there once. 'Onion' never did it for me, but that's just my taste (or lack of), it's usually busy. Really miss the Orchid, large fresh portions, and the best part was NO BUFFET, all cooked to order.

The name is Tan Thai. Limited but adequate menu. I had take out there a few months ago. The Tom Kha Gai soup was good, but the (dried?) lemon grass was chopped too small. It was a tedious task to remove it.

They are at 4510 Charlestown Rd. Website: http://www.tanthairestaurant.com

The take out menu offers 3 apps, 2 soups, 8 entrees.

FYI, while filling up the gas tank at Thornton's this morning I saw activity inside this building. Specifically I saw two gentleman who were doing some measuring and the like. I assume something new will be moving in shortly?
