Charlotte suggestions...?

by Jeremy Mott » Wed May 23, 2007 2:00 pm

Open solicitation for suggestions on where to eat in (downtown) Charlotte. Maybe something on the lines of a Palermo Viejo, L&N, Bourbon's Bistro? Or even something like a North End/Baxter Station/Diamante.

Or, is there some kind of similar restaurant forum that I am just not coming across with my Googling?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. :)

OUT on the N/C-S/C border (my memory is vague, since I wasn't driving) there is a WONDERFUL Hamburger place out on a lake that has the best burgers, grilled to perfection......And I think it's called the Hamburger Shack. It's been years since I've been down that way, but I do remember the food, services and atmosphere were all great.
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

Okay, it's not Palermo Viejo, but everytime I go to Charlotte I try to make a stop at:

Bubba's Eastern North Carolina Style BBQ!

I got a Bubba Mug sitting on my desk right now.

I know you said downtown, but a *great* Italian restaurant can be found on the south side called Villa Antonio. It's on South Boulevard.

It's great for lunch buffet or dinner. And their buffets aren't the standard food under glass, but rather a collection of great authentic Italian dishes to select from. Dinner is kind of pricey, but well worth it.

Nice site. I was never a fan of the Eastern NC vinegar-based sauces. For some real Carolina barbecue, one needs to head south to SC for the delicious Q and the mustard-based sauces. (and who's ever heard of pronouncing Beaufort as "Bo-fort"? Hah! - Tarheels )

there is a great spanish place called Sole Spanish Grille about 5 minutes from downtown Charlotte. I travel to Charlotte quite a bit and it is a place I always visit. http://www.solespanishgrille.com/hours.htm

Awesome...keep suggestions coming (if there are any more out there)!

While one dinner will definitely take place in downtown Charlotte, any noteworthy spots around are a possibility. Should possibly expand 'Charlotte' to include Outer Banks area and/or Charleston, SC as these could be daytrips.

Oh, and I know that BBQ of some sort would be a must!

Thanks for the suggestions. :D

Outer Banks is a LONG daytrip from Charlotte. You're better off heading toward Wilmington. Two outstanding seafood spots (no particular restaurants in mind) are Calabash, NC and Murrows Inlet, SC.

Yeah, I am finding out that Outer Banks is further than initially imagined. Instead of a daytrip, might make a one night stay out of it. If a daytrip turns out to be the thing to do (and it probably will), your Wilmington suggestion will be taken to heart. Guess the objective is a nice place off the beaten path. Thanks, Charles!

just downtown near the dunhill hotel.off tryon street. Hope that helps.

Another good NC institution is Sanitary Fish Market and Restaurant in Morehead City. You're out on the docks, been around for 70 years.

Another very good restaurant can be found south of Charlotte in Pineville... a German restaurant called Waldhorn. I've found it's rare to find a fine dining experience with German cuisine, but this is it. I had a very enjoyable dinner there while I lived in Charlotte.
