Pot stickers opening?

by James Natsis » Fri Aug 21, 2009 3:21 pm

I saw an article in the Business First hardcopy about the 610 Magnolia folk taking a new concept to Baxter Ave called Pot Stickers (if I recall correctly). Anybody know about this?

I have a hard time imagining the 610 attitude on Baxter Ave.

Welllll ... could you see Edward Lee applying his creative magic to something completely different, though? Remember, his last culinary effort before 610 was in his family's Korean restaurant in NoLita. Replicating an exact copy of an upscale restaurant in another neighborhood is one thing. A creative chef doing something completely different as a sideline is quite another.

The Tons' Basa and 732 Social also come to mind. Both are decidedly upscale, but entirely different concepts.

I also don't understand what is meant by "610 attitude." If it just means upscale, Jack Fry's is right there on Baxter as well. It seems to do pretty well.

We're on the same page. I love 610 and consistently rate it with Le Relais, Equus and Corbett's and a very few others as my top choices for high-end dining in this town. I also admire the way that Lee took the baton pass from Garber and somehow kept things the same while changing a lot ... it's still 610, but now it has his stamp on it.

If this place is going to be the concept I am thinking of, I am super excited! About two years ago, my husband and I took a trip to NY and spent some time in Koreatown. Koreatown has taken off thanks to what I call the "Sex and the City" effect. We found a restaurant that specialized in "mandoo" which are the Korean version of potstickers. It was called "Mandoo Bar" and was a small, hip place with all different types of mandoo dominating the menu. They were served as small plates and absolutely delicious. Judging by the wait to be seated and the ethnically diverse crowd, the place looked very popular. My husband remarked that a place like that would do very well on Bardstown Road. From the sounds of it, it looks like Edward Lee thinks the same thing.

Ooh, this is a pretty interesting topic. Do we know anything else? Like what space they'll be occupying?

Has there been any further information? As a huge fan of 610 and pot stickers in general I have high hopes here.

The C-J did an exceptionally good piece today on the forthcoming Pot Stickers.

gah... Wish I'd seen this yesterday. Might have bought a CJ for the first time in almost 10 years. Maybe I'll check for an online version of the article.

Edit: online version

Does anyone know the location on Baxter? I read through the article but couldn't find an address. Other than, on Baxter Ave.
