The bluegrass version of Led Zeppelin's "Going to California" made my jaw drop. They were ballsy enough to cover Led Zeppelin and PULLED IT OFF!

Heart has always been able to do some of the best Zeppelin covers I've ever heard. They did a cover of the Battle of Evermore on the Singles soundtrack and it was almost better than the original. Side note, has there ever been a movie soundtrack that was so much better than the movie than was Singles?

No lamb BBQ for me either. I went last night and settled for a country ham sandwich. I did witness alot of local goodies in the South wing with a good Asst of Honey, candy, fudge and Ice Cream from a local Dairy named Chaney's I think. Make sure to check out all of the prize winning country hams in all of their glory.

In the South Wing food court that is in the booth area (where the lottery stuff is), Selena's has a Cajun booth on the far wall. They are serving crab cakes, red beans & rice, and today they had gumbo. It doesn't say Selena's, but it is the same people. I went back over after enjoying the crab cakes and gave them lots of kudos ... that is when I found out it was Selena's. Definitely worth the walk (and you can pass Morgan's Fudge on the way back for sweet treats!).

Like the Ehrlers as always, also enjoy the pork butt. Gave up on Linnings years ago, no fried fish sandwich in the world is worth $8, especially their's.

We ate at the BBQ/Beer tent and listened to a great band of 3 older guys and 1 younger guy. Wish I knew what their name was. Anyway..the BBQ company that was there wasn't that good. The sandwich was fine (though the sauce was too heavy on the vinegar). But the coleslaw they served was inedible. In fact, all I had to do was smell mine to know I wasn't even touching it.

Get used to it...Wholesale cod prices are about $6.00 a lb. nowadays, so an 8 oz cod sandwich has three dollars in the fish alone. Add another $0.65 for bread, tarter and disposables, and your $8.00 fish sandwich has a food cost of about 50%. I don't know how these fish places can stay open with such a high cost product....Another interesting side note, Louisville is the highest per capita consumers of cod in the country....Just try to get some one in this town to eat anything other than a mild "whitefish" like cod, haddock(which has gone sky high also) or pollack AKA "Snowfish" on a regular basis.

You all have stronger stomachs than I. My appetite for Fair food was completely extinguished by seeing the number of obscenely fat people walking (or, often, riding) around. Maybe I haven't been to the Fair recently or maybe I'm just getting (more) crotchety in my old age, but I was astounded by the number and size of many of the people. I saw two guys who, combined, might have outweighed the mule they were grooming. And don't get me started on the line to the funnel cake booth.

Nobody with any sense could be at the Fair and not realize that the health care problem is just going to keep growing and growing (no pun intended). Truly depressing.

Jeffrey,
The fair is a once a year thing. For most people what they eat there is not their lifestyle but rather a treat! Most of the food you find at the fair you can't even find the rest of the year (and probably don't want to). It's just a whole different experience, if we were good all the time life would truly be boring.

I could be mistaken - but I believe that band was The Juggernaut Jug Band. One of the older guys is my dad - Mr Fish on the bass. For anyone else heading out to the fair this week, they play EVERY day in the "Q" tent from 11:30-3:10.

Mark, I obviously did not make my point sufficiently clear. The people did not get fat eating Fair food. Seeing the fat people made me not want to eat Fair food. Annually or otherwise.

That's exactly who they were and we enjoyed me immensely! I loved that they played a Doors song. Do they play anywhere else?

We noticed the SAME thing. Also, I saw more people with fewer teeth than fingers, people smoking indoors in the animal area, and a couple chasing each other around on their scooters. did you know there is now such a term as "scooter trash"?? I had no idea.

I do now! That is an awesome term. I'll try to remember to give you credit when I use it.

I can't take credit for it either! My son's speech therapist told me that this morning when we were talking about my son's sensory experience at the fair.
I think I had sensory overload..mostly on the b.o./cigarette smell!
