LEO/LHB: Another reason to love El Tarasco

LEO's Eats with LouisvilleHotBytes
By Kevin Gibson

I love El Tarasco’s St. Matthew’s property. I go there for lunch several times a month with my friend and business associate Jerry, and we’re never let down — when it comes to quality Mexican at a great price, it’s hard to beat. The chicken tacos are ridiculously good.

Recently I was there with my buddy Fred, and he pounced upon a new menu item called tacos al pastor ($9.99). I tried a bite or two of his order and was immediately hooked. Not that my chicken soft tacos weren’t delicious, all stuffed with fresh, tender pulled breast chicken, lettuce and enough Chihuahua cheese to choke … well, a really big Chihuahua. But this al pastor stuff was that good.

So I went back a week later and got an order of my own.

The tacos al pastor is actually one of a number of new menu items at El Tarasco’s six locations around town, including three new seafood dinners ...

We were there last night. The only complaint I have is that they have no "system" for carryout. It's better to run in there, order, then take it home.

The St Matthews store is a "gold mine". They do an excellent job with students, little league teams, etc. Service is always friendly and they work very hard! Great place for vegetarians as well.

Really? 90? I realize these reviews are subjective, but I've been more than once, and it's been bland, Americanized Mexican each time.

Last weekend, I had chorizo and al pastor tacos at My Patria. Washed down with horchata. Now , that was a 90. For Americanized fare, I'd pick Lolita's.

Note that Kevin, in this instance, reviewed and rated a specific dish. I can't comment on his rating, having commissioned him to do the review. Personally, though, I'm very much a fan of My Patria, Perla, and the other Latino eateries.

As for Lolita's, bear in mind that it's literally "Americanized." It's South of the Border only via Los Angeles Chicano-style,
