Chef Anthony Lamas & the James Beard House - Again!!!!

by David DuBou » Fri Aug 14, 2009 10:36 am

Congratulations to Chef Anthony Lamas of Seviche who just received his 5th invitation to the prestigious James Beard House in New York City! Being invited to the James Beard House is a great honor but being invited 5 times is astounding and Louisville should be extremely proud. And a special note of thanks to all those that have attended the "Gusto Latino" wine dinner series and helped it to be successful - because it is the "Gusto Latino" wine dinners that Chef Lamas is taking to New York!

A James Beard Foundation honor is like the Oscar of the culinary world. Chefs nationwide strive for the national recognition that accompanies a James Beard award or a coveted invitation to cook at the James Beard House.

A prolific author and cooking teacher who left an inedible mark on American food scene, James Beard is hailed as “The Dean of American Cookery” and his name remains synonymous with American food. In 1986, the James Beard Foundation was founded “to celebrate, preserve, and nurture America’s culinary heritage and diversity in order to elevate the appreciation of our culinary excellence.” Several days a week, chefs from America’s finest restaurants and hotels cook in the kitchen of James Beard’s legendary Greenwich Village home, presenting their culinary art to Beard Foundation members and the public. In addition to showcasing culinary artists, the Foundation offers tastings, lectures, workshops, food-related art exhibits, educational opportunities and scholarships.

Chef Lamas' event with the James Beard House will be on March 18th, 2010
The event that he is planning will be a "greatest hits" menu that pulls dishes and wine pairings from several of the "Gusto Latino!" wine dinners. And.....it is rumored that the dinner will be re-created in Louisville!

That's great! When is it going to be, David? Oh, March 18, 2010. I really need to read this stuff all the way through. As a Beard judge, I generally get these announcements early, but I'll bet it's sitting unopened in a pile of Email ...

I had a fellow Beard House judge tell me that no one gets invited to the Beard house unless they first petition the Beard House to cook there. So all judges usually know beforehand who will be featured.

Thanks you all! Especially Dave DuBou for his sommelier work and passion he puts into, at each "Gusto Latino" wine dinner. I do'nt have a PR person, but hey! I've got Dave DuBou. Thanks so much to everyone, who has made these dinners so successful. I also thank all who have supported Seviche all these years, without you, none of this would be possible.

Muchas gracias y buen provecho!

Congratulations Anthony for your 5th trip to New York! That is truly an accomplishment. Hopefully New York knows what Louisville has known for a long time, that you are not only an expert when it comes to Latino cuisine, but that you truly are one of Louisville's extraordinary chefs.

Best of luck with your dinner in New York and wishing you continued success here in Louisville

You have all the PR you need, chef and it's on the plate. A PR push may be required to get in the door at the Beard House, but they don't invite back mediocrity...

Congrats Anthony! You deserve it!

Seviche is my favorite restuarant. I had there just yesterday and it was amazing as always. It was a wonderful meal and we had a great waiter(joseph). Seviche continues to be the leading restuarant in Louisville and I only wish you more success.

Again, Congrats!
