A beer sommelier ?....A beer sommelier ?...

Two questions...(A) Where do I get a job like that and (B) once I find one will I have to wear the latest fashions, drink beer with my pinky elevated and speak with one nostril clamped shut ? :?

I believe Cicerone is the title the beer geeks are going for instead of Sommelier. Check out http://www.cicerone.org for more details. I took the first stage of it last week (I'm now a certified beer server! 8) ) but the next steps are a lot more in depth than the first.

OK...Cicerone it is. I kinda like that...sounds kinda important and certainly much less "prissy" than sommelier. So where do you figure one could go to receive training as one of these Cicerone guys ? Given my background I'm pretty sure I could test out of a lot of the basics and jump right in to the 400 level stuff. Think they'd give me extra credit if I could belch my name ? Yeah, I'm likin' this. Cicerone huh ?...has a nice ring to it. Thanks Todd. :D

Congratulations, Todd on your new title!

That being said The Craft Beer Institute really needs to come up with a better title than Cicerone. It doesn't roll off the tongue like sommelier.

Suggestions people, we need suggestions!

Perhaps the french word for "gifted": Douy..........Apprentice Douy, Master Douy

Cicerone sounds like an italian assassin....or the mens room. "Permesso, which way to the cicerone please?

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

and very little in the way of good beer. They need a Belgian or German name to go with this. Cicerone is cool from a purely Sopranos feel about it. I tell someone I'm a Cicerone, they don't know whether I'm going to get them a good beer, or a horse in their bed.

I think you mean Flemish/Dutch, since about half of Belgium speaks that and the other half speaks French, with a few Deutch speakers here and there.

How's this: sommelier translates as "wine waiter."

The Dutch translation of the same for beer would be bier kelner, or better, for ale, aal kelner.

i'm considering this option, although i'm not sure who the "experts" behind this are

right now i like the title some of my customers have given me "Beer Whisperer" or "Brew Guru"
