Alfresco Dining: Vote for your favorites!

Okay, spring is here and summer's coming fast, and alfresco dining is in full swing in Louisville. The other night, a beautiful evening, it was a real treat to drive out Frankfort Avenue and Bardstown Road and other restaurant rows and see happy diners enjoying themselves in the open air outside just about every restaurant.

I'm working on an article on alfresco and patio dining for Food & Dining and would love to have your input on this whole topic, anything about fresh-air dining that interests you or that you hope I'll include.

First, though, we're taking a poll! In looking through the Food & Dining database we find that several hundred local eateries advertise outdoor dining, ranging from two tables on the sidewalk out front to grandiose multi-level patios and groves of shade trees. The editors worked over that list to get it down to 50 really, really good patios, from which we further pared it down to 25 awesome patios. Now we'd like your help to pick the very best of the very best. I've set up an online "voting booth" (the forum's poll feature being unable to accommodate a ballot of this length), and you're now invited to click to the polls and pick the SIX local alfresco dining spots that you think best of all. You can choose from our list, or use the "other" option to fill in a worthy nominee that you think we've missed.

Please take a moment to vote, even if you usually just lurk. The Voting Booth is fully anonymous, and everyone is welcome to take part. The more votes we can muster, the more solid we'll consider the non-scientific results.

Tough choice

I voted for August Moon. Best place for a quiet meal.

Avalon .. best place for a place to see and be seen.

Captains Quarters .. a unique riverside place.

Got to love the weirdo that voted for Mcdonalds.

I really don't much care for outdoor dining unless the weather is absolutely perfect. That's why god created AC/heat plus no bugs.

CQ is my fave and I actually have to wonder who would vote for Mickey D's. I worked there for 21 years and just don't see the virtue of alfresco dining at one of their establishments.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

Aren't most of their spaces for kids the indoors Playplaces now? When I resigned in 1998 that was all the rage. Gosh, I hadn't realized I had been away from the biz that long. Thank God for minor miracles in MY life.

We've got lots of votes, but the more, the merrier, so I'm bumping this up in hope anyone who missed it yesterday will have another change.

Though I love August Moon, the bugs are a huge problem, especially when Beargrass is high. Azalea has always been fun. Like the big trees...

I love the atmosphere of 211 Clover's outside patio area. It really feels like you are in someone's private garden!

Thanks to all who've voted! It's shaking out pretty much as I expected, although I'm surprised to see BNA leading the pack. The patio is awesome, but I worry that not that many people from the Kentucky side know about it. Conversely, I'm a little surprised that Stratto's isn't showing better, which suggests that a lot of people don't know about its outstanding patio.

If you haven't voted yet, do it now! The more ballots we can tally, the more meaningful the results will be.

Le Relais. Sitting on the deck in the back of the restaurant watching the small planes land and take-off. Plus, the food is pretty damn good.
