Finally got to try Bunz!

by Michele Janosek » Sun Aug 09, 2009 1:36 pm

I have been MAD craving a good burger for at least 2 weeks now, so yesterday afternoon, Mike and I finally made our way down to Bunz. Took a quick glance at the menu - all burgers are double unless otherwise requested - and noticed the special of the day was "California - avocado & swiss". 'nuff said for me! As has been metioned in previous posts, the bunZ are hearty, from Breadworks I believe, and held up amazingly well for the juicy well dressed burger. I had the California with lettuce, tomato, mayo & a splash of A-1. Mike had the bacon swiss with pickles, grilled mushrooms and a touch of ketchup. We each had an order of the crispy golden lightly seasoned fries. Both of our burgers were cooked perfectly to our liking (just a slight hint of pink) and were very juicy and flavorful. Add in 2 fountain sodas and the bill was a shade over $20. (plus tip of course!) Definitely worth the trek to the Highlands! Nom Nom Nom - we will be back!!!!

Darnit! I should have gone to Bunz on Saturday! I was really craving a burger after the Trolley Hop so I headed to Cumberland. My bf and I split the bison burger. It was good but we were less than impressed with the fact that the burger was $9.50 served plain! It was an additional dollar for each topping including cheese and mayo! This seemed outrageous to me! To top it off, we had probably the worst service I've ever had. We waited for 20 minutes to order while the waitress chatted with some people at the bar and we had to go up and ask for our check and a box at the end of the meal!
Next time I'm craving a burger I'll give Bunz a shot instead.

I apologize for the way the Cumberland treated you Sat. night. Its Not the way we run our Pub. Ryane if you could please e-mail me an address so I may send you a gift card to give us a chance to make up for our mistake, I'm investigating the events of Sat. night in the mean time however I will make no excuses for our mishap.

I agree, but I'm still interested to hear the policy behind the $1 upcharge for mayo. I've personally never noticed it (the wife and I split CB's bison burger often, with a side of sweet potato fries, but she hates mayo, so I've never ordered it as an addition). That does seem a bit unneccesary on a $10 burger. . .

Still off-topic, and I am a loyal, long-time, and continuing customer at Cumberland, but the service is always, ummm, uncommon, regardless of the crowd. Over the 2+ years I've lived in the 'hood, I've just come to accept and be okay with it. The service has never been bad, per se, but we repeatedly have problems getting a server's attention, getting our check, paying our check, etc. The beer always comes fast, which is appreciated, but then there tends to be a lag until a food order is taken, and generally an even longer lag until it arrives, and then a huge lag until payment is accomplished.

To be honest, however, we just accept it as part of the always-quirky Cumberland Brews experience, and we keep going back. The food has always been great and the beer even better, and we just don't go if want to pop in and out of somewhere for a quick meal. We just budget our time accordingly when going to Cumberland.

I tried Bunz today, not bad,I admit I really love a flat-top burger. Kern's still reigns however in my book. I had a fine 1/2lb burger and small fries w/ a soft drink for $8.75, and hey the mayonaise was free, or was it? - My real point is, its all how you look at things. I am in no way questioning anothers pricing or am I able to compare myself cost wise with any others. Its all different. I know this if I'm happy with it, I do it. No matter what it is. Mayonaise, Portabella, Dbbl Bison patties, or hey whose that guy that often requests us for a fried egg on his burger- we love you man
Back to the service issues, I too apologize to you Brad as well. The fact it has been pointed out give us a chance to repair the problems.

Cheers

The apolgoy is appreciated, but absolutely not necessary in my case. We've never had a bad experience, just some interesting ones, and that's what makes Cumberland all the more exciting.

That being said, we look forward to any service adjustments you deem necessary.

Agreed 100%. I also take it to be part of the atmosphere, so I dine appropriately. When I'm looking for attentive, timely service, I dine elsewhere.

FWIW, i find "additional charges" to be what the chains do.

Charge me for the sandwich (bread, meat) and put the other stuff on there because you know it is the right thing to do (lettuce, cheese, tomato, onion, special mayo, etc.). Yes, I know there is a financial bottom-line argument to offer another angle. I'm not real interested in hearing it though. Now, if I'm trying to get some bacon thrown on there, I think an additional charge would be appropriate. Granted, if you did not charge me, I'd probably end up blabbing to my friends (and this forum), "Man, Restaurant X added some bacon to my sandwich at no charge. Really made my day." And well, that's free PR I'm not charging you for.

i feel the exact same way about cafe 360. the prices are totally reasonable and most of the food i've had has been good. personally, i keep going back for the chicken and waffles or breakfast burrito. however, the service is always slow, almost neglectful. i've had to approach the bar and ask for silverware, napkins, refills, boxes, and checks here. i've had a few different servers over the several times i've been there and they all act this way. maybe it's because they have large sections and i understand that (i'm a server), but even during slow times i've been there and felt ignored. once, somebody who'd just moved here asked me about 360. i told them everything's good but the service.
