Queenies Soul Cuisine

by Frank Wheatley » Sat Aug 08, 2009 9:41 pm

I just saw a sign in the closed Small Times Bakery on Richland Ave. in Hikes Point. It indicated Queenies Soul Cuisine opening soon.

BTW- I was at the Pizza Place across the street. Decent pie, very good sandwiches.

The Pizza Place on Richland has EXCELLENT food! And nothing on their menu is fried! It's owned by the brother-in-law of a friend of mine. The salads and pasta dishes are great, as are the pizza and sandwiches.

You were in a place that should be a Louisville land mark.

It was the location of the first go-go girlie joint in the city of Louisville. Owned and operated by the noted local gambler, Luther James. He also once owned Cunninghams. He now owns hotels and a golf course.

One of his partners in that place is a customer of mine. He tells some great stories about the old days.

Does anyone know a date for the opening? Hikes Point is in dire need of a restaurant that is not fast food. I can't wait. I also recall being drug in kicking and screaming to the Pussycat years ago.

The owner of Queenie's was in for a burger tonight. He told me that his restaurant will be opening toward the end of September - delays with permits and such. They will be using family recipes for fried chicken, greens, cornbread, pork chops, ribs...sounded so good! Having a buffet (or was it cafeteria style?) for lunch and then table service after 3 p.m. Wishing you luck and lots of visits from the Hotbytes foodies, Tom.

I grew up in Hikes Point. Where exactly is the Pizza place? Over by the old Charlie Downs Market? Or further down the road, across the way from Baskin Robbins?

We were at the Pizza Place last night. Queenies had a handful of people working. The sign on the window said opening Jan. 23. I'll have to check it out.

What a disappointment my brother picked up some food there tonight.
It was blah to say the best
He got two fried chicken dinners both came with two sides he got greens and mac & cheese were both were bland so was one small bone in chicken breast Mine was a small leg & thigh with mashed potatoes & corn bread well i don't think it was even cornbread it tasted like a white cupcake with cinnamon and very sweet i really don't think it was corn meal, i think the mashed potatoes caned.it was &10.00 a dinner
The other order was catfish with mac & cheese and before mentioned greens $10,00
two small tasteless fried fishfilets and i mean small
he also got some kind of apple & peach cobber and a scoop of banana pudding
I know things can go wrong on opening night but it was not good and at something about $50.00 for to go way out of line
I hope they work things out there's very little in the way of not fast food in Hikes Point
