Zins and Barbeque

by David Lange » Thu Aug 06, 2009 8:35 am

Kudos to Chef Deano and his staff for a great event in his first annual Zins and Barbeque at Equus last night. The weather was perfect, as Dean had a huge tent erected in Equus' front parking lot. Around it were smokers and Green Egg grills full of barbequed goodies. The staff had transformed Equus and Jack's into a large communal dining room along with tables outside.

Inside the tent were tables offering 6 different Zins to sample including, Sin Zin, Earth Zen & Fire, Sanctuary Zinfindel, and Four Vines selections of their "the Maverick", "the biker", and Old Vine Zinfindel, so there was plenty of vino.

Regarding food, well it was an absolute food fest of fresh vegtable sides accompaning fantastic barbeque from Ray Lamp, known as Dr. BBQ. First the barbeque; ribs, chicken, pulled pork, beef briskit and shrimp. Then there were the huge platters of fresh vegetables and side dishes; potato salad, baked beans, green beans, corn on the cob, tomatos and mozzarella, kale greens, sliced cucumber salad, and cornbread. Dessert consisted of maserated berries over chess cake with a cream sauce.

Needless to say it was strictly gala. So, next year when round 2 of this occurs, be sure that you attend, because you won't be disappointed. Dean told me next year he wants to get an even bigger tent and have up to 500 in attendance. Deano, you did a great job and we'll be back at next year's event.
