Schlafly Cask Night @ ZA's Pizza Pub 08/05

by Scott_Shreffler » Mon Aug 03, 2009 10:00 pm

With Robin's permission, I wanted to let you all know about an event coming up this week. At 8 o'clock on Wednesday August 5th, I will be tapping a keg of Schlafly American Brown Ale at ZA's Pizza Pub on Bardstown Road. This hoppy brown ale is taken up a notch with an additional hopping in cask of Simcoe hops (my favorite variety of hop). The roasty/citrusy character of this beer is sure to please even the most seasoned beer geek. As always, buy a pint and you'll get to keep the glass. Hope to see you all there. Cheers.

Sorry to hear that Roger. Have fun in Madison. Tell the Schlafly guys I said Hi. They should have some fresh India Brown Ale with 'em. I had it the other day and its phenomenal. Even better than last year's. When you get back we'll get together and set a study schedule for Cicerone, absolutely. Cheers.

I was just on the Cicerone.org website looking at the two certifications that they do. They have two levels, the Certified Beer Server, and the Certified Cicerone. The server training looked pretty easy, though some of the draft system questions almost tricked me (I don't deal with a lot of draft systems obviously). I've always wondered if its worth the title or not.

Maybe not at this precise moment, but I believe it will be worth it very soon. I'd like to give it a shot.

With no studying, I am officially a certified beer server per Cicerone.org. I'm $50 poorer for taking the test, but I now have a nice sheet of paper to frame and hang in the office. I am now also eligible to move on to the Cicerone certification. That one I think I would study for!
