In search of cole slaw

by Neal Ward » Mon Aug 03, 2009 9:29 pm

Call it wierd or whatever you want, but I am a firm believer in accompaniments; primarily cole slaw and I offer up places that fill my bill and rate highly.
Today, I went to see my friend Anoosh at Brownings for lunch. I enjoy going to someone elses house and dining on my days off. So we ordered the special, a very well made club on wheat toast and the fried green tomato foccacia-an additional treat being the foccacia was made on site. Being a cole slaw seeker, I waited for the delivery of the slaw. It came out beautifully creamy, full of gorgeous red cabbage, apple slices and golden raisins. We ate it and enjoyed the sun, wind and attention by the staff. Every mouth full was a treat. Go there and enjoy.

My other current favorite slaw is at North End Cafe. I have enjoyed virtually everything they produce. The changed menu with "everything" on it certainly will be a treat for those who must have "everything" on a menu.
Their slaw attains what I call classic perfection. All the right colors, textures and the amount of creaminess a classic slaw should have.

That's all I have for tonight.

Welcome to the forum, Neal.

I'm not a slaw connoisseur but the best slaw I've ever had was at the restaurant at Shakertown. One time I ordered only it and cornbread for lunch, and would do it again.

Neal, welcome to the forum!

We've been to North End Cafe a couple of times recently, and I recall being very happy with the cole slaw as well.

More recently, had what I considered an excellent slaw - creamy style, but with a good tangy flavor, at Old Hickory Pit barbecue on Old Shepherdsville Road, which has its roots in Paducah and is one of only about two places in the metro where you can get traditional mutton barbecue.

I am a slaw fan, as well.

The blue cheese cole slaw at Westport General Store is fantastic.

Ditto that one. Possibly the best I've ever had.

you know, i cant wrap my head around coleslaw. I don't like the raw, wet cabbage. I have tried it many times, as well as making it myself. My husband loves it, i just like raw cabbage some tacos sometimes.

last thought......maybe it's the sweetness of it.....dont know....
