Last night Flanagan's had a Stone release party for Levitation's official release on draft into the Louisville market. As far as amber ale's go, I think it is a pretty nice representation of the style with a bit more hop character than you find in most.
However, the star of the night was the second beer. Apparently the Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale was originally released as their 11th Anniversary Ale, but people just couldn't get enough of it so they made it a permanent release.
They pretty much take a great schwarzbier and then chock it full of C-hops, simcoe, and a few others that I can't remember. It had very a very fresh pine character (from the simcoe I presume), along with lots of grapefruit and other citrus, and then finished off with just a touch of earthiness. At around 9% ABV and 90 IBU's, this s not a session beer. However, considering how strong it is, it managed to mask it's alcohol character very well.
If you haven't tried it yet, you should probably stop by Flanagans and have a pint. There weren't as many people there last night as I expected, so chances are they still have some around.
