Anyone tried the Bamboo House?

It is on Poplar Level. What is good, what to avoid?

It's been around for many years, JP. I haven't been there for an awfully long time, but historically it's been a pretty standard Chinese-American sit-down place with all the usual suspects. If you go, give us an update!

If that's the place on the left as you head north from the Watterson, we used to eat there every week or so when our son was young and we made a weekly trek to the zoo. Agree with Robin that it was good basic Chinese food. It's been close to 10 years for us.

I live down the street from the Bamboo House and eat there several times a year. Robin is right, they have the same menu as most of the run of the mill Asian places in town. The food isn't bad, but I usually make the drive to Double Dragon on Goss. Their hot and sour soup is the best.
Is that a raw fish in your pocket or are you just glad sashimi?

They have changed ownership so many times I can't keep up. The last time I went they were pushing the no M.S.G thing and I guess they didn't have any salt or soy sauce for that matter because nothing tasted like anything. I almost ate the styrofoam box by mistake. Cleanliness in this old building has been questionable over the years as well. I live right down the street and I make the extra drive to Double Dragon on Goss every time.

Another worthy option in the immediate neighborhood would be Lolita's, a little closer to the Watterson on the same side of Poplar Level. Tiny place, but very good Los Angeles Chicano-style burritos. They've been around for years and pretty much stood the test of time.

Lolita's avocado burritos are so amazing! I swear there's two full avocados at *least* in the thing.

That's Mary's standard order at Lolita's, Dana!

They are the only chinese restaurant that delivers in our neighborhood now that cafe mimosa is gone. I have always enjoyed their singapore rice noodles and szchewan wontons and my dh loves the twice cooked pork. The food is delivered so fresh and hot that we swear they are cooking it in the car on the drive over.

I've only had lunch at either - but based on lunch I would concur with others that Double Dragon is the better option.
