Size of dinner entrees at Vincenzo's?

by Kari L » Wed Jul 22, 2009 3:16 pm

My husband and I are participating in a "grocery challenge" run by a magazine that restricts your food budget per week (including restaurants and alcohol) to $25/person or less. So that means we have $50 a week for groceries and any eating out we do. So far we have been able to be creative with coupons and discounts to eat out once a week. Our anniversary is next week, and I just bought a $25 certificate for Vincenzo's on Restaurant.com for $2 (80% off code is NAPKIN if you're interested) so we're thinking we might go there.

Neither of us has ever been there before, and I am finding conflicting information about the menu pricing. The entree listing on restaurant.com appears to just be the lunch menu (even though the certificate can only be used at dinner). The dinner entree prices on the restaurant's official site seem to be between $20-30 for most entrees. So I'm wondering if, like Jeff Ruby's, you can split an entree (either free or for a small split fee), or if they are large enough to split? Do you get bread/salad/soup included or is that separate?

Thanks :)

Kari,

It's been a year or so since I've had dinner at Vincenzo's, but based on past experience, most entrees are more than sufficient to split, especially if you split a salad or appetizer as well. This is particularly true for the pasta dishes. I know that for lunch, many of the entrees are enough to split.

I don't know if there is a split charge, but it coudln't be more than $4 or $5 I wouldn't think.

Of course, this all depends on your appetite.

Previous discussions regarding these certificates have mentioned that they require a minimum purchase to be used at certain restaurants.(I believe the figure was $125-$150) Call me a skeptic, but I would have enough cash on hand to pay the full menu price should they not accept these certificates.

Actually, I just went and checked this out on the restaurant.com site. For Vincenzo's, it says minimum purchase of 2 entrees (I'm assuming for each certificate used) and they add an 18 percent gratuity to the pre-discounted amount.

I think they have 1/2 priced early bird entrees from 5 to 6.

I'm thinking the certificate probably can't be combined with the early bird special since it says it can't be used with other promotions. If we split a salad or appetizer and an entree, though, we could potentially get out for pretty cheap I'm thinking.

How do you find out about these codes? I'm signed up on restaurant.com, but I haven't gotten any emails about discounts.

Thanks!

Check your spam filter. I get emails from restaurant.com every week.

I got that particular code from BargainBriana.com -- a couponing and discount blog. I usually get the codes from couponing sites.

I hate to possibly burst your bubble but I was just looking at Restaurant.com and for the certificate at Vincenzo's, it says it's only valid with the purchase of two entrees (and they add an 18% gratuity to the total amount before discount). I'm assuming they're always the same so maybe you better check before you go so you're not disappointed!

Kari,

Guaranteed you can't combine early-bird with restaurant.com certificates. And note what Richard said: most of the restaurant.com certificates- while good- have very specific requirements for use. Sounds like yours may require a 2 Entree purchase- double check that on-line. ( the details will show on the right side under the $ value certificate you have selected).

Certificate aside, though- I'd agree that two can split many entrees at Vincenzos, so the early bird thing might be perfect for you.

In addition to the coupon requirements (such as 2 entree purchase per coupon), you are also agreeing to provide your phone and address to any third party vendors to whom restaurant.com wishes to share it.

This may mean unsolicited snail mail, phone calls, etc. Such doesn't bother everyone, but I wouldn't like it.

Over time, I've been able to reduce unsolicited phone calls and snail mail to nearly none.
