oasis sushi

by Jessie H » Mon Jul 20, 2009 1:27 am

i stopped by oasis sushi on preston tonight around 8:30 and got carry out. i ordered the jakee roll, yum yum roll, and cream shrimp roll.

i know oasis has been discussed in another thread but i felt the need to bring it up again.

i brought the rolls home and sadly found that my sushi tasted about the same as the sushi in the kroger deli does after it has been sitting in the case all day long. i also found it strange that the chef had my order of three rolls ready in a matter of just a couple minutes. usually at other places, even on a slow night, the wait for carry out is much longer than this was. it almost made me think that parts of the rolls weren't made to order. it just didn't seem the norm. the rice was dry and some of it even hard or crunchy. the spicy crab inside the yum yum roll was very salty and didn't taste like seafood. the jakee roll contained so much cream cheese and so little fried snapper that the fish was nearly undetectable. i would have went back to discuss our disatisfaction with the management because i know that's the only way they can really fix the problem. i just didn't want to be that person today. the man who took my order was super friendly. he encouraged me to come back and dine in for their happy hour when the drinks, entrees, and some sushi are half off. he's just a guy trying to make an honest living and i guess i didn't want to rain on his parade.

i had read reviews for oasis that were favorable and i certainly did not expect to be so disappointed. i'm in the restaurant business and i understand they could have been having an "off night." has anyone else tried oasis? how did you feel about your meal? i'm not out to bash them, i just want some other opinions. i hope that being a new place, this isn't the norm and maybe they're just working out the kinks. i'm pulling for them.
chi mangia bene, viva bene.

amen.

We have never gotten carry out there, but we have been extremely happy everytime we have gone there to eat in. I am sure if you speak to the management there, they will be happy to hear any crustuctive comments. This is the same folks that own Bendoya downtown and I have found them to be anxious to do their best for all thier customers.

that's too bad! I'm one of their biggest fans, have probably eaten there at least 25 times since they opened late last year. I've never been disappointed in the sushi, though I tend to order the same things over and over, mostly variations on salmon, so I can't speak for some of the other rolls. I always watch Song make mine fresh at the sushi bar.
My husband usually orders off the main menu and he was disappointed at our last visit with the shrimp, he said it seemed like a different kind than Song usually uses.
I very much want him to stay in business, I love having sushi in my part of town. If he's not satisfying people he can't stick around, so do let him know.
