Do they offer any food at the wine bar, or is it just wine? Also if they do offer food, where can I find a menu? The Oakroom's own website seems to be down, and google didn't turn up anything.

Is it really "half price" if it is marked down every day? Isnt that just "the new price"?

Not if they still charge full price at The Oakroom itself. Then it's just like 1/2 price apps or drinks at the bar in an actual restaurant.

To answer your questions:

I have taken the Oakroom's wine list, and shaded many items in gray, not changing their prices. When you flip through the book, you will see the prices are the same as they have been. I haven't marked anything down. I am just running a special of half price on many wines that I have an overstock of, or many wines that are at their peak and need to be drunk soon.
For example, a bottle of Alexander Valley Cyrus on the menu is $110. If it is shaded in gray, you pay $55 for that bottle. This is available in The Oakroom itself while dining, AND it's available out in the wine bar area. We do offer a menu in the Wine bar, and here is a link to view: http://www.theoakroomsommelier.blogspot.com. I haven't uploaded it yet, but will in a few minutes. As far as a link to the wine list, I will work on that. If you would like for me to email it to you, I'd be glad to do so.
Many of you might be wondering why some of these wines are half price. To answer that question, we had a sprinkler system bust in one of our four cellars, raining down black water, ruining the labels. The wine inside is still good, but I can't very well sell those wines at full price with a label that looks damaged. All of our wines are kept at proper temperature and proper humidity, and if there is ever a bad bottle, I would never ask anyone to pay for it.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Thanks for the link Ashley. Everything looks great, especially the cheese list!

Those sprinkler systems are awful at times. When I was a resident assistant at U of L, we'd always warn the residents to not try and smoke in their rooms or tamper with the sprinkler, because the water is rarely fresh and often has that nasty black color to it. :?

If you get a chance, I wouldn't mind taking a look at the wine list. You can either post a link or email me at paul.mick@louisville.edu

Thanks!

Makes sense. As does the sprinkler system explanation.

Sorry all that I haven't emailed you the list yet. I will do so today. It's been a very busy week getting ready for the wine dinner tomorrow night and the wine bar has been pretty busy this week.
