Bella Notte - Lexington (Friday night)

by Rebecca Clark » Fri Jul 17, 2009 12:42 pm

OK ... I know it's not Louisville, but there wasn't a Lexington forum! ;)

Anybody been to this restaurant? Likes / dislikes? I can't change the restaurant, but am interested in knowing what to order. Leaving in 3 hours!

THANKS!!!

Yes, I lived in Lexington when it first opened. I want to say 1994, but it may have been a couple years later, 1996ish. While I was there , the selections were not half bad and service was decent. Considering they are still around, I guess they are doing something right.

I ate there with my mom while shopping for prom dresses and learning how to drive on the interstate. If I remember correctly, it was pretty good. I probably ate something with alfredo at that age--not that much has changed since. I remember the bread being really good.

The good: the bread was fantastic. The pasta was good, nothing stunning, but good.

The so-so: service was a little on the slow side, but our server was very personable.

The bad: I despise lemon in my water. The one area where the server failed miserably was bringing me a glass of water without any lemon on the glass, but lemon seeds and pulp in the bottom of the glass. His explanation of how they got their came close to turning my stomach. He did bring me a crystal clear glass of water after calling it to his attention.

Since I enjoyed the company so much more than the food, I would give it a 2.5 on a 1-5 scale. Fantastic bread, decent pasta but nothing extraordinary, so-so service.

You've got me curious. How did the pulp and seeds end up in the glass without the lemon?

OK ... you asked for it.

He said that the pitcher of water they use to pour from was next to some sink and "things" occasionally fell into the pitcher that had to be fished out. I didn't pursue the definition of "things" because I just didn't want to know. BLEH!

Yuck! I think I would've been a little less honest with you and made something up.
