AJ's Gyro Cafe

by Mark P » Sun Jul 12, 2009 8:10 pm

My wife, the lil guy, and I stopped in to AJ's Gyro Cafe in Floyds Knobs, in the old Ranch House/Jukebox at Highlander Point, last night before going to a birthday party. We had heard it opened on Tuesday and this was our first chance to get out and try it. Good decision on my wife's part!!

She had the lamb and beef gyro which she would have placed at the top of her all-time gyros if it weren't for so many onions (full disclosure: she forgot to say no onions so her fault not theirs). My two year old had the kids chicken gyro. It was basically a regular size gyro and he really enjoyed the chicken dipped in he kazeki. I decided to try the Jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon with cheese which was pretty good. It could have used another 3 minutes or so on the grill to crisp the bacon, but that's a preference. We all had the fries at the urging of our server. She said they were great because they hand cut them everyday. Our only complaint of them is that they were over salted to us, but crisp and fresh tasting nonetheless.

We will definitely return soon!! The gyros were plentiful and fish and chips I was considering looked fantastic !! Its great to have another option in the Knobs besides pizza.

Mark-
I'm familiar with the Georgetown AJ's. Is this a second location?

Yes, it is a new location in addition to the Georgetown one. This is an actual eat-in restaurant with full menu.

Just opened last week! I've got a mention of the Georgetown AJ's (and a note about the Highlander Point location) coming up in this week's LEO, along with a handful of other roadfood selections.

Roadfood...hmmmm. Maybe I'll go down to the Dairy Dip (New Salisbury, IN) and have a tenderloin sandwich of two for dinner tonight.

Does anyone have a street number for the Floyds Knob location? I checked their website and saw no mention of this location. Goggle didnt turn up anything for me either. Thanks
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

John, I don't have a number, but Highlander Point is the newish shopping center on the left on US 150, shortly after you take Exit 119 from I-64 toward Huber's and other local attractions - the next exit after the I-265 loop road at the top of the hill above New Albany.
