New Cuban restaurant?

by Alanna H » Tue Mar 06, 2007 12:33 pm

A friend told me they had recently seen a place on Poplar Level, near Indian Trail, called Carrie's Cuban Cafe. Anyone heard about it or been there? I'm sure nothing could beat Havana Rumba but I'm curious if anyone has tried it yet.

New Havana Rumba location?

by Deb Hall » Tue Mar 06, 2007 1:01 pm

Don't know about that Cuban location unless....

I do know from the owner/ chef that Havana Rumba is opening a second location: originally planned to open this week. But I neglected to ask where. Anybody know where it's going to be?

The former La Peche II in Holiday Manor, isn't it?

Yes!!! I have it from a good source(Fernando and Marcos)that they are in fact opening another location where LePeche used to be in Holiday Manor. They might be going a little more upscale with an emphasis on tapas and the Spanish side of things from what I understand. At any rate, it should be tasty and hip. I wish them all the success they deserve in their new endeavor.

I've been there, it's close to my office. It is very good. They didn't have an English menu so they had to translate anything we couldn't understand. They said they were going to get an English menu, this was about a month ago.

I'm a long time lurker and I'm finally out! There is a shopping center (rather run down) right past that Cuban restaurant on Poplar Level. I can't think of the name of it but it's got a music store in it also. Anyway, there is also a Cuban bakery and store there. Last time my husband and I went they didn't have any of the shelves stocked BUT they make Cuban bread and have delicious desserts! I actually have my doubts they are even open anymore but if anyone is in the area and find it to still be in operation, it is definetely worth stopping in.

I had lunch at Havana Rumba today, and I asked when Mojito was planning on opening. And they said in just 2 weeks.

Is there a good Cuban place in the South end? (or is there a really good one in town I should try?)

I've been looking for one for a long time.

Not anymore. There was a Mambo Cuban restaurant next to Vietnam Kitchen, but it is now a chuch (???). Your best bet is definitely Havana Rumba in St. Matthews--everything there is delicious!

OK, thanks for the info! I'll definitely put Havana Rumba on my dining agenda. :D

By the way, I'll also throw in a good word for Vietnam Kitchen. Their food is fantastic, and it's one of the few restaurants in town that I get regular cravings for. Also, their prices are very reasonable.
