Bats, Centerplate offer "import" Browning's beer!

by Roger A. Baylor » Mon Jun 22, 2009 12:21 pm

We took in Saturday's Bats game and I posted this blog entry on the topic of Browning's beer, which I located, although under less than ideal circumstances:

http://potablecurmudgeon.blogspot.com/2 ... -ever.html

How can a Centerplate worker not know that there's a brewery located 50 yards away from the point of dispensing?

And, how is beer from a brewery located fifty yards away an import?

Concessionaires + Bats = Philistines.

The beer was good, though. Kudos to Brian Reymiller for persevering through uncertain times.

It would not surprise me if they labeled it an import; only to increase its price.

And, they DID import it from outside the stadium. :D

Legally you are correct. Picked-up @Browning's by River City Dist., transported to RCD's warehouse then "imported" to centerplate.

Good to see you guys at the ballpark the other night ... here's a somewhat related recent forum thread you may have missed, with some interesting factoids in it. (Among others, Browning's was originally promised three taps around the park but only got one. The Bud cup is also a perversion ... )

Not surprised at all to see this. 3 years ago they had a sign listing Blue Moon as being from Belgium. At least that is imported in from another state.... Tennessee I believe is where they brew it. It must be in Southern Belgium.

A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it's better to be thoroughly sure.

Of course if you use that as a criteria all of the AB swill they served would also be an import!

It used to be brewed in Memphis (originally, it was brewed in Colorado, of course). IIRC, after the merger, it is now brewed in Canada.

<rant>

You've actually touched on a pet peeve of mine. I was in a bar the other day and was told that their happy hour special was $2.00 domestic drafts.

"Excellent" said I, looking over the taps, "I'll have a Shiner Bock."

"I'm sorry sir, that's not a domestic."

"Really? Did Texas finally succeed??! Ok, so a Leiney Red then."

"Sorry, not that one either."

"Wisconsin too huh? Ok, so then.. what exactly ARE my choices?"

"Bud, Bud Light, Miller, Miller Light, Coors, Coors Light AND CORONA." (emphasis is mine)

"So we lost Texas and Wisconsin but picked up Mexico. Seems like a fair deal to me."
.......

Why am I told "$2 Domestics", when it's really "$2 mass market swill"? Why the use of the term "domesitc" and "import" when neither is honored?!?!

The sheer stupidity of it is staggering to me.

While I'm ranting, is there anyplace in town where one can purchase a Yuengling either in bottles or on tap? Having to have friends bring it down to me is getting old. I need local supplies.

This thread brings back memories of going into Another Place Samich Shop, the one the used to be on Bardstown Rd. They always listed the Domestics and Imports on different chalk boards. Sam Adams was always on the imported list. I gave them grief every time,"Oh you have Sam Adams that beer imported from Baston".

Yeungling isn't distributed in Kentucky, but you can get it in Nashville if you're up for the drive.

I know some people are crazy about certain beers, but as a beer-geek, beer-aficianado, and a former pro-brewer I'll tell you straight up that it isn't worth the drive. Plenty of great beers available in Louisville metro (both locally brewed and "imported" from the US and beyond).....

Save the gas - buy local.....

I still don't understand the fascination with Yeungling. I have a lot of respect for the company, but the beer is very boring. I really do not see a huge difference between it and any other mass-produced American pale-lager, other than the fact that you can't get it here. Are we going to see Burt Reynolds bootlegging trucks of this up I-65 ala Coors in the 70's?
