Pizza Battle (Throwdown?) - Details

by Nimbus Couzin » Mon Jun 22, 2009 1:12 am

Alrighty,

So, as per recent polling results, we're going to go with two categories, one veggie, one "meat-lovers." Also, the event will be held at Ray's Monkey House Coffeeshop.

All we need now is to pick a date, and figure out which pizza joints are going to participate. Ideally, they'd enter one in each category. I like the idea of having no formal judges, but rather everyone gets a vote. Monday night works for me, because that is our movie night at the shop, and some Mondays don't have movies. The second monday of each month is the only one that is a definite conflict.

So how do we go about soliciting entrants? Should we come up with a hard date first? What about the third monday in July? (July 20th, 7pm)....Sound good????? Then ay of us with contacts to local pizzza places should talk to them and see if they want to participate. We should be able to get a bunch.

Well, that should be enough to get us rolling. The only other detail is slice size/quantity. Does each place bring one of each entry, or two, etc, etc....So still a few logistics, but shouldn't be bad....Anyone else want to help me organize??? Or we can all just think out loud and get the job done....

Thanks all!!

I would vote for a Saturday afternoon rather than a Monday evening...and from a purely selfish perspective I'd vote for ANY day other than one of the last 10 days of July since I'll be indisposed during that period of time.

One concern here is that we don't have a large number of pizza operators participating here. Or are we still looking at the idea of volunteers picking up pies from a few favorites and bringing them in to a central tasting station?

Also, we have a nice concept of passing the hat at every offline on behalf of a local charity, preferably in some way food-related. Any thoughts on that?

I'll pay for a pizza or two if necessary...and kick in $$$ to any NON-whacko charity to boot.

Ive been a bit out of the loop lately so I may have missed other posts regarding the pizza throw down. Have we gotten any farther than the one meat/one veg idea and the location? What about the date ? time ? participants?
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

John,

Welcome home.

This pizza thing is going in fits and starts. I believe the decision has been made to do it at Ray's Monkey House on Bardstown Rd. When is the big question. If anyone is listening (Nimbus ?) Becky and I can make it anytime ACCEPT any day from the 20th to the 31st of July.

Thanks Steve, was there a poll as far as the date? If not I suggest Monday, Aug 3. for no particular reason other than it gives us about a month to get it together.

I'll second Monday , Aug 3. It works for me. I know that any date we choose will have conflicts for some people, but all we can really do is choose a date and go from there.

But, as Robin mentioned above, we don't seem to have many interested pizza places yet. It would seem to me like they'd want to donate a couple pies for the publicity and chance at winning! Can people start talking to contacts? Danny Mac is the only place on board so far. Let's try to get it to ten if possible. We really shouldn't have to pay ourselves. (but I guess that'd work). I dunno. I just know I've donated thousands of dollars in coffee and beer for various causes and events and most businesses love marketing in this manner. It is very cheap for them....

1. So is the above date ok with most of us?
and
2. Can people start asking their favorite pizza places if they'd like to participate?

Thanks!!

When we ask the pizza joints about participating what should we ask them to provide? Will one of each,meat/veg be enough? Or should we ask for them to provide more than one of each. I will PM CPC and NABC to make sure they are on board with the Aug 3 date.

Under these circumstances the CPC has no interest in throwing down in this pizza battle.
Sorry, but we're closed on Mondays and our pizza is certainly going to have 15 to 20 minutes longer in the box than all of the other competitors.

Any other day of the week, we'll be happy to donate a few pies to the battle (if someone would like to pick them up, that would be great - but i could probably arrange a delivery).

Pizza is best delivered from an oven, not a car!

Our pies speak for themselves, 'nuff said.
