Thoughts on Olivia's on Goss??

by Adam Smith » Fri Jun 19, 2009 9:13 pm

I was just informed that we're having lunch there tomorrow afternoon. I've never heard of the place, looking over the menu online and it seems decent enough. Anyone been there and have opinions and/or menu recommendations? Thanks.

Chef Travis Hall, formerly with Eva Mae's on River Road, is there, and that's a plus. We dined there last summer during heirloom tomato season and thought it was pretty good, but the problem is that it's the successor to The Cafe at the Antique Mall, which was exceptional, and it suffers both in the comparison and because they moved it out of the big upstairs room with tall windows and high ceilings into a rather dark interior room downstairs. Not bad, and with Travis at the helm, it may grow, but I wasn't 100 percent blown away by it last year. Don't let me bring you down, though. If you go, let us know what you think.

We went for breakfast one morning about 8 months ago and although it wasn't bad, it wasn't worth returning in our opinion. Lots of kitchen noises, hostess that kept walking by our table with flopping shoes on the hardwood floor. The server brought some wrong items. They were not busy at all when we were there and I have to agree about the Cafe that used to be there. It is way better, open for lunch also. :)
