Good Eats near the airport?

by DeeDee D » Tue Jun 16, 2009 4:06 pm

A girlfriend asked me where she could take an out of town client near the airport? No chains. Something that says Louisville. Any suggestions? I'm never eating there, so I'm not sure. Thanks!

^ Good suggestions.

Not sure anything says "Louisville" any better than Wagners, considering it's history and location at the Downs.

Sante Fe is another great option.........for my $$$, the best mexican in Louisville.

Dee Dee, you've had some good suggestions. For more, here's a recent thread that took on a very similar topic:

I'd take her to the Derby Cafe at Churchill Downs. The food is good and most new people to Louisville will get a kick out of seeing the race horse and the grounds, you can kind of make a little mini tour out of it.

Cardinal Hall of Fame Cafe is decent food, decorated with all local sports memorabilia, and is fun. While it's set up like many chains, it is (I think) local, has some local dishes, but mainly emphasizes local sports and activities. If the guy is into sports, you can't beat it!

Is this for a lunch or dinner? Since we have two airports in the area, here are suggestions to cover either...

Louisville International: Santa Fe Cafe, Cottage Inn...

Bowman Field: LeRelais, Thai Siam...

Note re. "Cardinal Cafe": while it adopts a motif that is customized for UofL, if I'm not mistaken I believe it IS part of a chain of restaurants that designs its properties to fit the local college community where it is situated...

You're right - I wasn't sure, but looked it up and it's part of the "hall of fame" company. Oh well. Still like it when I'm in the area . . .

Ditto....not all chains are "chains".
