Fancy dinner out?

by Dana McMahan » Mon Jun 15, 2009 4:28 pm

I'm embarrassed to say I haven't been to many of Louisville's best restaurants. We tend to splurge on dinners out in *other* cities, but not so much here. Le Relais is about the only dress-up-for dinner place we've been.

This weekend is our wedding anniversary and we've budgeted about $100 to go out. For two people who don't eat meat (I'll eat fish, but as a last resort --I prefer it in sushi form), what's a classic Louisville restaurant we need to try?

Thanks!

It's been awhile, but I love Buck's. It's so romantic and charming.

The food has always been top-notch, but again...it's been awhile.

Varanese or Saffrons

Equus! Check this week's Voice-Tribune review (see http://www.LouisvilleHotBytes.com front page) ... one of the classiest acts in town, and they've recently cut back the menu to make it more affordable. Our party of three dined for about $130, and that included a fairly nice bottle of wine. A couple should be able to build a fine meal easily there for $100 ... including a nice tip.

We always spend our special occasions at Porcini or Jack Fry's. Sitting outside on the patio at Porcini can be pretty romantic at dusk. I also love sitting at a little 2-top across from Doug while the wait staff hustle and bustle around us. It's almost as if the close quarters makes it seem like it's just the two of us.

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess we've been to two -- we did go to Equus a while back. (I was actually a little disappointed, long story).

I feel like I can't count myself a true Louisvillian until we go to Jack Fry's, but then there are several other places I could say that about too. :D

Hey Dana!
We would love to host you here at Seviche for a romantic evening. We offer a wide variety of dishes that include plenty of vegetarian options, plus if you enjoy sushi i'm sure you would love our fresh fish seviches. Dining for under $100 should be no problem. This is especially true on Sunday, when we offer half price bottles of wine and half price seviches as well as several other drink specials. Call to make a reservation or just stop by, we'd love to have you!
Happy Anniversary!

My wife and I are celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary tonight at Corbett's. I cannot wait and highly recommend it. The five course tasting menu has been incredible each time.

We finally made a decision. We decided not to decide :D
We're doing a Bardstown Road progressive dinner crawl thanks to a friend's good suggestion.

We'll start with seviche at Seviche, then have tapas at De la Torres and small plates at Asiatique, and cocktails at any or all of the above. If we still have room we'll finish with chocolate at Coco’s.

Best of all worlds, don't have to commit to an entree and get to sample 3 places we haven't been to.
