La Rosita on Westport

by Mary Beth D » Wed Jun 10, 2009 3:08 pm

I was driving down Westport Rd yesterday, and noticed a place called La Rosita where the Louisville Fruit Co. used to be. Anybody know anything about this location?

Hey, that's awesome. I have a friend that's completely addicted to La Rosita and she lives right around the corner from there. I just googled the location of the Louisville Fruit Company and it was about half way between Herr Lane and Hurstbourne. My friend just told me that doesn't know anything about La Rosita going there, but she's really stoked.

I love La Rosita and will be delighted if one comes to Westport Road - I'd drive out from Crescent Hill for that! Don't forget, though, if it's authentic lengua tacos you want, you can find them in that same general part of the East End at My Patria on Lyndon Lane between LaGrange Road and the railroad tracks.

I have been talking up My Patria for months now. It just doesn't seem to get the credit other authentic mexican places are getting. My food has always been great and the people are wonderful. It is located in the back of a grocery store so you can shop for all your Mexican food needs while you wait on your food.

"La Rosita" is an awfully common mexican name- Anybody know if it's the same La Rosita? That's very close to my house ( Though I never made it to the Louisville Fruit Company before it closed... )

There's also a La Rosita in Clarksville that is unaffiliated with the New Albany branches.

By my calculations, Israel Landin should just now be returning to NA after 15 weeks in Mexico, where he was taking classes at the national culinary school. It seems unlikely, although not out of the question, that a new location would open while he was away.

I'd say the odds of there being a connection are fairly long, but I could be wrong.

Justin,
We have gone to My Patria several times, and do enjoy it a lot! It's worth a visit for those of you who haven't been. The food is great, and they give you a lot for the money.

When I first moved back in the area, I had a woman come into the store looking for La Rosita. Not yet knowing about the restaurant in New Albany, I sent them to the La Rosita down the street from me in Clarksville. She came back in a few minutes later fuming that I sent her to a grocery store. I have not made that mistake again. That being said, the La Rosita in Clarksville does have a great authentic carnacita in the back of the store that cooks up some excellent food. Not affiliated at all with La Rosita in New Albany, but good for a quick bite.
