Pregnant Lady Needs a Sno Cone!

by Alexis Rich » Mon Jun 08, 2009 8:55 pm

Can anyone tell me if there is a Sno Cone stand in their neighborhood? (Louisville area or even So. Indiana) I'll can even do Hawaiian Shaved Ice in a pinch. However, I'd prefer an old-school Sno Cone. I can't imagine I'm going to make it until State Fair time. If this doesn't work, we're renting our own machine for the summer! Thanks!

Maybe the Dairy Freeze (name?) on Eastern Parkway at Bradley?
My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Germantown Ballpark behind St. X for sure has the old-fashioned snowcones. My nephew prefers a blue raspberry/cherry one, but I know they have grape too. Any local ballpark has them including Lyndon and Fern Creek--at least they did back when I played softball there.

Rent the machine! Imagine how great it would be - you could eat them all day long whenever the urge hit. And, um, I would have a spot to bring the kids for some colored sugar water.

Yeah, Lyndon has them. Enjoyed a number of them last year. It's hard to recreate how great they were (or I thought they were) as a child, but maybe being pregnant is the necessary, secret ingredient. Alas, my gender prevents me from ever finding out.

What about a Slush Puppie? Not quite the same presentation, but, hey, the same ingredients. I find myself stopping in at the little convenient store on 4th (right next to the Fifth-Third on Central) for a Slush Puppie from time to time. I'm not really sure it's ever what I want, but I keep going back.
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

I bought a Hawaii Ice machine at Target (around $20) and use it constantly at home. I shave a 1 gal. freezer bag full of ice at a time and keep it on hand for all kinds of drinks. In fact, I've used it so much the blade on the machine needs replacing; I've worn it down to a nub!

I am happy to report that the Dairy Dell on Shelby St. has Sno Cones as does the Dairy Del on Eastern Parkway. Unfortunately the Dairy Kastle on Eastern Parkway does not but, having memorized their menu long ago, I already knew that. (Might I suggest the Fat Elvis milkshake? It's a pregnant lady's dream!)

Thanks for the tip on the ballparks. What a great idea and the prices will sure be right. I guess on my next trip to Whole Foods, I can stop by the park in St. Matthews. (Defeats the point, no?) Everyone who replied should be happy to know that you've helped not one, but two of us miserably huge women this summer. A preggo friend of mine and I went to the pool yesterday and I saw her eying the concession stand then saying, 'Darn! They don't have Sno Cones!" I later shared our collective wisdom with her.

We thank you!

We bought a snow cone machine at Walmart for $19. We have all kinds of flavors of syrups.
