no one is safe.....

by Becky M » Mon Jun 08, 2009 2:32 am

i am sitting here surfing hotbytes, reading Marsha's awesome enlightenment about servers, how little they get paid, how much they do. Read some other articles about restaurants closing and the bad economy and the effects it is having.

And i am thinking, no one is safe. My husband just lost his job on Friday. We knew it was a risk, they were cutting people every Friday. It was like we were living with a noose around our neck just waiting for them to kick the chair out from under us. My husband is an electrician's apprentice. I really thought that he was safe for another while. I mean the hospital HAS to get finished you know. Any of you that frequent Corbett's Restaurant or Costco, that hospital there is where my husband has been working. I am just at a loss for words. My baby is asleep in his crib, my daughter's are playing their DS's here next to my bed, all is silent except for the hum of the ceiling fan, and i am just reading all of this and just thinking, wow, no one is safe.

sigh.....

Bad economy or not, no one is ever safe. All anyone can do is always do your best and pray your good karma will help pull you through.
Becky, my heart goes out to you. It's hard and it's sh***y when something like this happens to folks that give all they can and want nothing more that to make a simple living. But I do believe this, something better will come along. A better opportunity for your husband, a better job, something that may offer you both more than just money. Perhaps time together. I don't know. Just hang in there and it will happen. Use all your resourcefulness and be like Dory. "Just keep swimming, keep on swimming."

I'm so sorry to hear that, Becky. I can relate, but I'm sure it's even scarier when you have children. It's devastating at first, but I too chime in that this could ultimately provide opportunity for your husband. Try and stay positive, and keep the faith.

So sorry! We're there too. My DH lost his job 2 months ago and he works in a construction related field. Commercial construction has been hit HARD! I have a friend that works for a large plumbing company and said they're just now bringing everyone back..so here's to hoping it's looking up!!
