Oh I just had to read this thread lol...well I just made up my mind what I'm doing for lunch tomorrow, because now I'm craving Indian also! Which place has the best buffet though? I am going to be with a friend who has not had Indian before so this would be a good intro. I am a big fan of Shalimar's and if you are running errands closer to the Highlands, Sitar is a nice recent addition.

After reading some reviews.....We're heading to DakShin tomorrow night.
Sounds like A LOT of choices on the menu. geezzz.......looks like a trip of over ordering.

It says Eastland Shopping Center. What's that close to (landmarks please like other restaurants or shops)?

The Eastland shopping center is on Bardstown Rd between Breckenridge and Watterson Trail. There is a pretty big sign by the road with the name of the center on it, hard to miss.

Next to the "Gordita Wagon". DakShin is hands down the best Indian food in Louisville IMO. The next tier includes Shalimar and Bombay Grill which are also very good.

Another loud vote for DakShin. My second choice is Sitar.

There is a furniture store there, but the name escapes me. I have only had the DakShin lunch buffet. Liked Bombay Grill better (again, only had the lunch buffet) Like Shalimar too. Lived in England for a couple of years and for some reason like their Indian food better. Not sure why, probably just a first timers bias. Last neighborhood here in Louisville had great neighbors from India and Pakistan. Now that was great food.

Only been to DakShin once, and while I loved it I still have Shalimar ahead by a nose. Can't go wrong with either place and I think they both have lunch buffets.

Thanks to all that recommended DakShin! We had a FANTASTIC meal. The staff was soooooo friendly. The food was awesome. We ordered way too much food, but sampled alot of different things. We will definitely be going back.

I need to try Dakshin...

I like Kashmir. Pretty simple, but I guess I tend to stay in my 'hood. Bardstown Rd, highlands...

Sitar is super close, but the service was so bad (by a manager nonetheless), that I don't know if I'll go back. An employee of mine, who is African-American, asked me about my experiences there, and I told him about the horrible customer service, bordering on rudeness. He said good, he was wondering if it was just because he's black. I said nope, they seem to treat everyone that way. We also weren't impressed by the food. Just ok.

I wasn't overly impressed by Shalimar either. But only been there once.

So I guess Dakshin is on my horizon next time I'm craving Indian food.

p.s. I'm a guy who makes my own curry feasts and has Turmeric, Coriander, Cumin, Tamarind, and various curry blends on hand at home. Not an expert, and I've never even been to India, but I've had Indian roomies, and shared an office with an Indian guy, so I guess a little trickle down effect..

Cheers....

The people at Dakshin really work hard to get and keep your business. I have been to lunch (buffet) and dinner. Service is superb. Any questions are answered quickly.

Shalimar is very similar.

Hard to choose between the two of them. I have been to most of the Indian places and these two stand out.
