Paul Mick wrote:So I'm currently editing the Medical Student's Unauthorized Survival Handbook (MUSH) for next year's class. Obviously I'm putting a great deal of TLC into the section that involves the city of Louisville itself and its dining/bar scene. It currently is an appalling mess and lists a number of restaurants that have either moved, changed their name, or simply gone out of business.
Therefore I'm putting out a call to find out what good places there are around Louisville that offer nightly specials and student discounts. We're all trying to dine on a budget, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many of these people will have only visited Louisville once or twice before, and unfortunately that usually means that they know nothing apart from the tourist traps and chain spots. From that perspective, I'll welcome any advice you have about the city, including where to get a hair cut, what to do on a date, and which bars are the best. I have my own opinions about all of these things, but there's a reason that the chimera is such a fearful beast beyond the fact that it breathes fire. (read: it has more than one head)
Thanks a lot in advance. If I can make this edition fairly comprehensive, then hopefully it will be used to inform new medical students for years to come.

My late night study haunts included the White Castle at Bardstown and Eastern Parkway - the coffee was good and cheap. Real restaurants were never part of the experience. The Jewish Hospital Physicians Lounge was always a place to load up on some calories for free.

I guess the times have changed a little bit since then. The Heine Brother's at Bardstown and Eastern is now much more popular than White Castle, and I'm fairly certain that most of the class doesn't smoke. However, the alcohol remains pretty much the same to this day.
