Culinary excellence on the river???

by Brian Taylor Clark » Tue Jun 02, 2009 2:57 pm

This Friday we're celebrating my father's birthday and I'm drawing a blank as to our nicer options that have a river view/optional outdoor seating. We're also not opposed to taking a drive out for a great meal in the country. We went to Holly Hill last weekend so that's probably out as is Wesport as they've just eaten there as well. I remember the Overlook in IN near Wyandotte, but quite frankly the food wasn't quite up to par. Any suggestions?

The menu for Bistro One in Madison looks good. I haven't tried the food yet. It's not ON the River, but close. A little over an hour from Louisville.

Captain's Quarter's on River Road would probably fit what you're looking for.

Rivue in the Galt House (no outdoor dining, obviously) probably has the best downtown river view.

It doesn't get a lot of attention here on the forum, for reasons I've yet to determine, as our experience there (and subsequent experiences from good friends) was incredible, to the point of us easily putting it in our top 10 upscale favorites in the city (maybe even top-5--we thought it was that good).

No one I know personally that has been has had anything but very positive things to say about it.

Isn't there a Doe Run Inn or something in Brandenburg?

Thanks for your suggestions thus far. CQ, no doubt serves great food, but I think the Fri/Sat crowd is a little "Jimmy Buffet" for what we're looking for. A nice drive topped with a great restaurant with a river view is definitely the ideal night for my father. Keep em' coming, I'm sure we can nail down the perfect birthday for him.

lol. I've got two left for Sat. I'll sell them to you at face value  All due respect, great, innovative menu, priceless view, it's just that it's a little to much of a older crowd party scene on the weekends. Not that there's anything wrong with that, hell I've been out quite a few times this season. I have a feeling he'll want a slower, more tranquil b-day dinner if I've got him pegged right.

Cutter's Wharf is open for the season - nice drive, ON the river, really good food.
I'd tell you to go to our website for a deal, but we're already sold out of their certs. for this week!

I'm surperised nobody has mentioned the choices on the Indiana side that offer superb views of the Louisville skyline. Rockys has pretty decent Italian fare and has an awesome terrasse right on the river. If that is not good enough, Bristols is right across the street. They have good food and is much less "Jimmy Buffetish."
