Ballyhoo or Qdoba? Velocity can't decide ...

by Robin Garr » Sat May 12, 2007 10:26 am

In this week's Velocity, Lisa Hornung checks out Ballyhoo Baja Grill on Bardstown, asking the portentous question, "Is it as good as Qdoba." Lisa concludes that she can't decide, adding, "There is no choosing sides. It's not better, and it's not worse. It's completely different."

I have no such problem. I think Ballyhoo blows away Qdoba. How about you?

My vote is for Ballyhoo. Qdoba seems to have good ingredients, but no matter how I combine them and how many jalapenos I add, whatever I eat there always seems very bland. I've only been to Ballyhoo once, but my burrito was delicious. I'm eager to try the fish tacos next time I make it down there.

Amy, have you ordered Qdoba's habanero salsa? I must say, it's kicking up some heat.

I haven't. I asked once a while back and they told me that, yes, it did have cilantro. I'm one of the people that can have a teensy tiny taste of the stuff and my mouth will taste like soap for hours, which does limit my salsa experiences a bit.

Ah, that makes sense then. It's good, but there is cilantro.

That's easy. Ballyhoo wins hands down.

I'm pretty well fixated on their fish tacos lately.

I feel like Ballyhoo's offers more/better options for toppings. Unlike Amy, I could eat cilantry by the bush, and I love that they have piles of fresh cilantro as a free option!

I love Ballyhoo's fish tacos so much that I was inspired to reproduce them at home (sorry, Ballyhoo).

Qdoba? Meh.

Bardstown Road "traffic?" Get real. At it's worst, you may have a two minute walk.

Agreed, Ballyhoo's without a doubt. Their fish tacos are addictively delicious.

Now if only they would A.) offer a grilled fish option instead of fried and B.) get rid of the styrofoam cups!!!

She drives me nuts. "When a new fast casual Mexican place opens, everybody has one question in mind: "Is it as good as Qdoba?". That's awfully presumptuous. She wants to compare it to Qdoba so much yet when she takes the issue of parking as a "downfall" she leaves Qdoba on Bardstown out. Now technically she should have that little blurb about parking in each and every little review she has about eateries in that area? I am curious if she has?

I am on my way downtown and am going to check this joint out on the way. My review process is very simple and consists of two categorys:

1) Good (will return)
2) Not Good ( will not return)

I like to keep it simple

Qdoba is horrible. Moe's obliterates that joint.
