Westport General Store

by Brad Keeton » Mon Jun 01, 2009 7:59 am

My wife and I finally made the trip out to Westport General Store on Saturday, and are kicking ourselves for waiting this long. We had a wonderful evening (the drive being part of the fun)--the food was outstanding (Baby Hot Browns, Red Eye Shrimp, Bison Rib-Eye, Strawberry Rhubarb Pie (w/blueberries), and chocolate cake); the drinks were flowing (Pappy 12 yr, Alamos Malbec); the music was entertaining, and Will was a very kind and gracious host.

We were having such a good time we called the couple we were supposed to meet back in Louisville for cocktails and cancelled, and instead spent another hour enjoyng our wine and the music. It's such a fun and laid back environment, but with top-of-the-line food. There was a good crowd there as well--a nice mix of demographics it seemed to me.

If you haven't gotten out there, do so soon. It wasn't as long a trip as I was expecting (barely over 30 minutes from the Highlands--not much further for us than going to Mojito or Corbetts or anything else in the Prospect area). We'll be back.

Glad you posted this review Brad. It reminded us of our fun drive out a few months back. We're planning an evening there soon. The Baby Hot Browns are calling me. :)

A recent conversation with Will revealed a potential problem for first timers. If you use Maps On Us, Map Quest, certain Auto GPS systems, etc., be aware that they can send you miles out of the way. One service routed people over Kennedy bridge to Madison, IN and back over Ohio there. Others have been sent far past Westport via I-71. From center of Prospect it's a very pretty drive out US 42 (13.1 miles) and left on KY 524 (3.2 miles).

Will, are the Whiskey Bent Valley Boys due out soon?

Tom,
thanks for pointing this out. We are trying our best to resolve the issue with the GPS service but it is very difficult. There are directions on our website. http://www.westportgeneralstore.com

Bands over the next month:
Swing Shift on Sat. June 13
Troubadours of Divine Bliss Sat. June 20th
Whiskey Bent Valley Boys Friday June 26th
All shows are 7pm
call for reservations.

Thanks
